Tarrant County Clubs Empty Tarrant County Clubs

Post by TankXP 26/06/13, 08:20 am

I've heard a lot of different things about clubs in Tarrant County.
We're new to the area, and before we sign anywhere, can anyone tell me their thoughts on clubs in Tarrant County?

We are currently practicing with 3
Dallas Texans
Fort Worth FC
Texas Lightning

Are there any clubs that are better that we currently aren't visiting?

(running out of time!)

Not a lot of info on the 01’s but in the 00’s either of the top two are good clubs. The Lightning is kind of hit or miss depending on the age group in my opinion.

IMHO, I would not worry about the club as much as the coach and the team. Find a coach that you are comfortable with and a team your DD feels like she fits in.
All clubs have good and bad points, so the coach and team become the key factors.

The Lightning 01 team is pretty good actually, Renato Sampio is a great coach and done good things with his black team.

Completely agree with Ed's statement too. It's about the coach and how your DD likes the coach and other players and how she fits into team. There are some great coaches at smaller clubs and plenty of not so good coaches at bigger clubs.

Very True. There are many factors that have to be weighed. All cthree clubs above are quality clubs. The rule the wife and I put in place this year was not to sign with anyone until we watched them coach a game and see how they do interacting with the girls in different situations.

Playing style is another important factor to look for in a team, regardless of club. Does the coach endorse a style that suits your DD and it is a sustainable style long-term?

One of those '01 team you mentioned play a different style than the other two.

Which teams within those clubs are you looking at because each has one team considerably better than the other.

Texans FW played LHGCL Div II last year and will be promoted to Div I this coming season, while Texans South played Arlington Div II last season.

FWFC Black plays LHGCL Div II while Red played in Arlington Div I last season.

TX Lightning Black plays LHGCL Div III while White played in Arlington Div II last season. Both are coached by Renato Sampaio.

So there is a considerable difference depending upon your DD's talent level. The other Tarrant Co teams in LHGCL is Solar Red (Div I) and Solar White '01 (Div II).

Sting West O'Keefe played LHGCL Div III last year but will have to requalify this year. Also Odyssey '01 had a strong team in PPL Div I last year and per postings here intends to go through qualifying.

Have any of the coaches given you a good idea of what level of play would be best for her?

ETA: In our three years here, my DD has played for, trained with, or played against several of these squads. If you want to ask anything privately, feel free to PM me.

Tarrant County Clubs Empty Invite to try an open practice with our 01' Saints

Post by RobMac63 28/06/13, 04:42 am

You are welcome to try a practice with our 01' Girls here in Southlake.
We practice at Eubanks Intermediate, 500 S. Kimball.
Monday & Thursdays, 6:30-8pm, plus Saturday 9-11am.

Many of the replies bring up good points, team chemistry, game style and coach are key factors to decide what will fit your daughter and your family best.
With the Saints, we focus on development of the player and are putting the finishing touches on our 01' team for the fall. We still have a couple openings for the right player for our team.
Give me a call if interested in finding the right soccer club home for your daughter. I'd be happy to speak with you.
Tryout times will be announced shortly.

Coach Rob Mac
214-697-1925.

Good advice, but why so much beating around the bush? Which of the teams plays kickball and which plays possession soccer?

My daughter has played on teams with both styles. While possession soccer may sound good I have found it to be rather boring. If you always have the ball but are not attacking for the sake of keeping possession, how many scoring chances are you creating? Most of the girls I've seen at this age have had possession drilled into their brain so much that they are scared to play a long pass. What's wrong with playing a ball forward and letting your forwards chase it down and creating scoring chances? You can play keep away after your up a goal or two.

Possession soccer isn't boring if everyone does their job. Actually, it's very pretty and encourages creativity when it is working. There's nothing wrong with a blend between possession and an occasional long pass. Possession can lull the defense into thinking everything is in front of them. Also, it involves more of the team in the process of building up to scoring chances.

Yes, of course there needs to be some long passes in any game...but not just back and forth, over head again and again...control the ball and use your skills!

Post by InaB 04/07/13, 02:21 pm

Unfortunately, I have seen far too many teams play kickball in North Texas. It usually gains very little and is done (in my eyes) because 1) the player isn't confident in dribbling, 2) the player panics, 3) they are trained to just kick the ball forward by their coach (or other coach). Yes, once in a while it is good to mix things up, however, prolonged kick ball (either forward or out of bounds) is frustrating both to watch and play against. It is a constant delay of game and boring to watch. I would far rather watch a team who has control of the ball and the game through possession.
