ECNL tryouts

Any key pick ups from this years tryout process or to early to tell?

Too early… visible changes will take another 2-4 weeks...

When do first year ECNL teams usually start practicing together with full roster? (not try outs)

the answer to that is in some vacuum in outer space currently...

Texans '00 ECNL team was formed by the middle of June last year, and started practicing July 31

I suppose the middle of June is typical...

as usual, this will all depend on Mia Hamm

Damn right! We'll just follow typical north texas soccer and get the biggest, fastest, most physical defenders we can find who could care less about their skill, technical abilities, and possession soccer.  

lordy help ya if you have a DD that wasn't already on 1 of the 5 teams going to ECNL.  Unless keepers look for greener pastures, it's hard to shameless self promotion them from the spot no matter the talent or lack of it.

Admin has a sly sense of humor! HA HA!

The coaches can find the talent....they know who is who...even the keepers.  

I didn't see it myself, but heard first hand that a soon to be ECNL coach and a few of his parents surrounded a standout keeper  and recruited them to the team right after she'd walked off the field of a recent game.

yes surprised admin doesn't change to great and powerful wizard of oz.

what tickles me is how long it took to realize the word b um p is an auto replace.

Despite keep's entertaining attempts to get b.u.m.p. into a post, he brought up something I am curious about. Does it help your DD's chances of making ECNL by playing for the club prior to trying out? Are the majority of girls selected already on that clubs top team going into ECNL?

From my experience, yes and no. Yes in that if a current player, being a known entity is being challenged by a new comer, but they are equal, then you keep the known entity. No in that these coaches are here to win and will take the best player possible.

The typical first-year ECNL roster the past 3 years for all clubs has less than 50% of players from any one team, including the top pre-ECNL team from that club.

That said, by the end of U13, there are very few secrets in this thing. The coaches know where the top players are.

I'm sure there's another thread on this somewhere but..........................................if there was less than 50% of players moving up to the ECNL team from the clubs top D1 team, you would think that at least one of those teams would be cohesive enough to try and retain their D1 bye since a majority of them are left, right?  Did some try to retain that bye and fail for some reason.........................maybe players decided to scatter to other ECNL teams, or  other D1 teams, players from the 5 ECNL clubs played musical teams and ended up just moving to another ECNL team, the club didn't want to hassle with it, etc.?  Is it a written rule and the league force them to vacate the bye?  Or am I way off base here thinking that it's even possible for a club to retain a bye once they form the ECNL team? And perhaps a better followup question, are there any of the 5 ECNL club top 01 teams rumored to be attempting to keep their bye this summer?
