From the article:
Let's talk about eleven-a-side not being implemented until U13, for example. American women have a huge advantage over the rest of the world and that is that girls start playing eleven-a-side at 10 years old, while in most countries that doesn't happen until later on. So, tactically, American girls are a lot more advanced than their counterparts from other countries. Why eliminate that advantage?"

Although agreeing that the concept of getting more touches on the ball is good, Appelius believes that this can be achieved through training, without necessitating restructuring of the rules.

This is exactly what I have been saying. Players on smart teams already get more small sided play today in practice, futsal, and small sided tournaments.

These rules do nothing but hinder early tactical development for the few girls ready at the early ages. This essentially eliminates "honors classes" and forces all kids to learn at same level and pace.

Obviously this has YourApeeIn origins... because Europe has a culture of creating so many new and excellent things /major sarcasm.

No doubt pushed by arrogant know it all's wanting a legacy in US Soccer.

According to the USSF, U8 players are still learning to walk. Rolling Eyes

That's a backwards thought process!!! I love the changes! It forces our youth coaches to conform to coaching Build up play from very young ages. This will not effect our Girls 11v11 development at all. They will still get their 7-8 years of 11v11, which is plenty. The only difference now is they will have the tools skill wise and mentally to be more successful tactically in the 11v11 game! JMO

I'm thinking there will probably just be a lot of goal kicks from the 18 yard box (or however far on a small sided pitch) or a pass out pass back then boot the heck out of it. It will be perverted in some way I'm sure.

You are kidding, right?   Very Happy

And how are those who can't coach it now suddenly going to learn it?   What a Face

Think of goal kicks and punts today.  Goodbye bootball, hello punt-and-run and goal kicks that cover 3/4 of the field.

Substantially smaller fields (1/2 the current size) with 16 field players instead of 20 will mean more contact and will favor bigger girls (and those who can put the ball in the net from mid-field).

Sure, I would like to see changes in coaching, but just because I want for it to happen, doesn't mean its going to.

If these coaches were capable of doing it, and had the incentive to do it, why wouldn't they do it now?  How do you think the change to 9v9 will "f orce" it to happen?

Too many coaches in NTx either lack the competence (training, experience, knowledge, understanding) or the desire (coaching to make some extra money, parents desire to win, coach's pressure or desire to win) to make it happen.

How will the move to 9v9 f orce conformity on a coach who is unable or unwilling to change?  Especially if they can find shortcuts to winning over the time, effort, and energy required to actually develop players?

It's not the playing format that will Dribble the change, it's the rule changes that will Dribble the change.

All I know is that I was at Main Event last night and saw a prominent NTX academy coach there scouting birthday parties for GK talent.  When I asked him what was up, he said that he was "Looking for the 1st graders that don't have to use the bumpers."

What does that tell you?

What rule changes to U11 and U12 will occur aside from 9v9 and smaller fields?
