Heard this week that NTX is thinking of allowing 05AP and 06AP to qualify for select this summer. Anyone heard any info about this?

If I am looking at the correct (updated) age matrix, 05s are U12 next year and 06s are U11.  So 05s will progress through LHGCL as usual and the 06s will qualify.

LHGCL has not officially said that they will use the updated age matrix (but why make these changes and then not follow the correct age chart?):
Birth Year Registration
We are aware that an updated and revised Age Chart for Birth Year Registration has been approved and released by the Federation. We are meeting to review these changes and a decision will be posted soon. Thank you for your patience.

How will 05 teams progress as usual? There are new 05 teams due to age change and most teams will look much different with August - December 05s and no 04s on the team. Hear most of 05 Jan - July girls will play up with 04s to stay with their current team... This is our first year select so this combined with AP is pretty confusing... Seems like late 05s are in a bad situation... No one knows what to do with them...

By as usual, I mean there won't be an entirely new, 48 team QT for the '05s.  The teams currently in U11 that earn byes will have byes into the U12 age division.  How will each team/club use those byes?  No idea.  As many other more experienced posters have said - the clubs will most likely do what they think is best for the club.

Tom, it may work out that way but would seem wholly unjust. These are new teams. I would think the byes progress with the year and there would be 2 QTs. Have I missed LH issuing a statement? I'm rarely on these boards so that is a possibility! :-)

It's also unjust to ask 2005 born players playing on current 05 teams to find, and go through, another round of qualifying if they choose to do so.

Right. But if they do decide to drop down then then they will be on new teams. The players only qualified as part of teams.

You are pointing out one of the reasons why many of us thought this whole thing silly (the AP switch) which was only to benefit the top 1% of players. I am a fan of the small-sided initiative.

Post by Guest 11/11/15, 01:21 pm

Lakedad, c'mon now. Not too long ago only the top 5 Classic 1 teams got a bye no matter the club on the boys side anyways. Everyone else had to qualify and earn a spot in Div. 1 and Div. 2. They should still do it like this. Earn your way in and if you do not make it then there are worse things in life than not making Classic League. You should want your DD to earn that every year and if she does not make it then "failure" is also not a bad thing....

I am not sure I follow, but:

"These are new team": The 05s are new teams?  They are not new in the eyes of the league.  The 05s exist and are playing select.  Will those teams all stay together?  Probably not.  But how is that different than any other age group?  Any argument that is made for the 05s could also be made for the other age groups.  Should LHGCL blow everything up and have each age group go through a full 48+ team QT?

"I would think the byes would progress with the year and there would be 2 QTs."  There will be a QT for the 05s.  I guess its size depends on how many 05s are able to claim the byes earned the previous year.  But will there be a full 48+ team 05 QT?  I am sure the big clubs can fill enough of the byes to keep the QT relatively small.

That's fine.  I'm good with that.  Blame the big club leadership for that change.

But since we're talking about the future, not the past - 05's that have worked through the respective leagues will have a bye.  That's the way it's setup now and i don't see it changing.  Current 06 players, born in 2005 are already starting to form new AP teams.  They will begin to practice and current 05 (2005 AP) girls will be encouraged to come out (as long as they are at the same club).  That team will fill a bye if the current 05 team qualifies for one.

Post by PLAY2FEET!! 11/11/15, 02:31 pm

The thing not being discussed is that this will affect all age groups.
If club A has a u11 spot in D1right now, they would get a u12 bye next season. If the team is made up of primarily 04's that makes them a u13 team next season. Unless their club has a bye in u13, they would have to enter u13 QT for D3. This would be true for all age groups.

Post by Guest 11/11/15, 02:50 pm

05's will not requalify. 05's that earn a bye this year will keep it as 05's. There will be several choices that apply to 05, 04, 03, 02, 01. All teams that earn a bye in a particular age group may keep it. If you earn an 05 bye then you have an 05 bye. If your 05 team that earned that bye has 04 players on it, then those 04 players can not be on that 05 team next year.....or.....that 05 team with 04 players on it can stay together and play as 04's, if, if, if their club as an 04 bye that they will give to that team.......or......that 05 team with 04 players on it can try to qualify as an 04 team if their club doesn't have an 04 bye that they can give to them.

There may be some special consideration given to some 01 teams that allows them to do things a little differently.

For 05, 04, 03, 02 the above is how it's gonna work.
For 06, they'll be age pure and go through qualifying in the normal fashion.

It's gonna bust up a ton of teams. Just like I used to bust up Dusty Rhodes.

Post by Guest 11/11/15, 05:40 pm

The interesting questions are. How many age pure 06 teams are there right now? If there are lots of them everything will go pretty smooth. If there are not lots of them, then when will there be lots of them?

Seeding for QT is based largely on passed record and reputation earned from that record. Without a decent history of 06 age pure records, seeding could be wildly off and/or susceptible to abuse.

Im sorry but I have to disagree
05's playing as U11's now mainly will have 04's on them (not all but I think 90%) 04's are the age they will take (even though they re called 05's) so the bye will move to U13 with the 04 group as that's how they Qualified
Any teams that are now formed as 05's will go through a whole new QT as they would at U11 (as they will all be new teams) but at U12 as will the 06's but as U11's. You cant have older teams saying we are split 50/50 and saying well we want a bye for our 01's and a bye for our 02's. The 01 part will keep the bye and move to their relative AP year and the 02 will form as a new team and go into QT as 02's
It"s really not difficult when most teams have the August-Dec birthdays but are called after the Jan-July birthdays

I wouldn't worry too much about the AP 06's. They have spring season and a boat load of tournaments to sort things out. When next summer rolls around, the top teams will have solidified their place in the standings.

It really sucks for the 05's birth year players that are currently on Non-AP 06 teams. They are going to have a tough spring. They wont be able to roster on any AP 06 Academy teams. They will have to consolidate with the limited AP 05's to form leagues and teams. That's a mess.
