USYS Proposed Change - Age Pure
USYS Proposed Change - Age Pure
The small sided change is great! The change regarding headers seems a little knee-jerk reaction like, but maybe not. That's a totally different topic. This post though is in regards to the Age Pure change.
I know LHGCL today sent an email today stating, "Even though we have discussed a direction we have not solidified or announced our decision at this point."
I hope the league makes the best decision in the interests of the teams and girls. I have not understood the necessity for this change. To become in more alignment with international guidelines? Do we really need to follow suit? Will this really make our men's national team better? All of this and less than, what?, 0.1%? of all youth soccer players will play some form of international soccer?? Splitting them to calendar year now separates them from their classmates. Definitely not a fan of this. Not at all.
Curious to know what others think on this change and what the heck the leagues are going to do!!

Therefore, changing the age date doesn't solve anything.
IMHO, it's better to start the age grouping when soccer begins - which is in June.
I hope they don't change and keep it as is....
At the very least, don't affect the kids who are already in the middle of their lives and don't Dribble them to switch teams...
My 2 cents.

Re: USYS Proposed Change - Age Pure
But you would have a kid still born on Jan 1, competing against a kid born on Dec 31.
Changing doesn't solve anything for the kids....

I am not certain that playing with classmates or friends is as much a concern as some teams essentially being broken up over this as they move into their sophomore year, which is a pretty critical year in the development of these athletes. There are some teams that have as much as 8 or 9 girls who can be displaced since they would now be 00's as opposed to 01's. I guess they could play up as it probably matters less the higher you go in high school, but that should not be necessary.
Also, how does this catch lighting in a bottle? All it seems to do is slide the 1 year difference from top to bottom back by 5 months. I like Longhorn's idea of grandfathering. That is the best compromise.
