Coaches should care.. Empty Coaches should care..

If a player ever gets hurt bench or starter, coach im my opinion should care about player. It's human nature to care. Just heard from parent that their D.D. got hurt and coach didn't once call or ask about well being of the kid. Just sad, that a top club coach would represent their club like that...so watch what you get into before signing...GOOD LUCK!!

Coaches should care.. Empty Re: Coaches should care..

I agree coaches should care! Mine does, my daughter is sick right now and my coach calls every single day to check on her and he texts or calls other players too when they are ill or hurt. However, when a player is hurt with an injury that takes them out of the game for a while, I think it is also the duty of the parents to call and update the coach or manager of what is happening. Yes, coach should make at least one call, probably the first call!

However, remember coaches have things going on in their lives too, jobs, marriages, divorces, ex's, sick children/family, car accidents, the list goes on and on. All the same things you and I have that would make us forget to do things, important but not right in front of our faces. Now I am not saying that a phone call takes more than a minute of their time but I am saying think about if something major is happening in his/her life that you are not aware of.

Please dont jump my case for suggesting that you dont know everything about your coaches life! Remember, I agreed with you in the first place, the coach should have checked on her, its the right thing to do!

So what do you suggest parents do before signing to assure themselves that the "coach cares"?

In my opinion this has nothing to do with representing their club. If a coach doesn't call to check up on an injured player, what is the reflection on the club? That's a bit of a stretch, unless its your feeling the coaches have been instructed not to.

You're right, its human nature to care, and I think most do. That said, my dd's on a team to get the coaching she needs. It would be great if he/she is organized and thoughtful enough to call if she were injured and they certainly should.

But if they don't, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't care. As justsayin02 has mentioned, it could be that they simply have a lot on their plate.

Of all the things I'd worry about in getting a coach, making sure he calls if she's injured is pretty far down the list.

Coach should also remember to send a personal thank you card for the pooled Christmas gift the team gave the coach. It's basic Emily Post.

If your coach didn't do this, you should be aware of what you are getting into before signing.

Does each of your DDs elementary school teachers call to check up on her when she is out with a sore throat? If teach don't call, how can she possibly learn in that environment??? Better change school districts. I'd ask the principal before signing up at the new school.
