Hey soccermom13....we take our 12 and 8-year-old daughters to a great guy for this very thing. The 12YO could NOT run properly...it was SO obvious. He fixed her! He trains right here in Frisco and name is Thomas Allen. His website is www.eliteperformancetrainingusa.com and phone is (404) 423-2949. He's having a session for soccer players this Friday morning at 9:00 at Warren Sports Complex probably over by the tennis courts. First session is always free so you can check it out. Give him a buzz for more info!

Be VERY careful! We had a coach work with our DD on her running technique and he almost ruined her career. She ended up in a boot and the foot and ankle orthopedic doctor concluded her condition was a result of the well intentioned running instructor. I am no expert (and maybe there is one out there willing to comment on this topic), but the message we got is that everyone has their own natural running mechanics and changing things can be risky. Fortunately, our DD's condition responded well to treatment. She was back playing within a month of diagnosis. We decided that since she isn't going to be an Olympian or on the Women's National team that there was no need for a running coach. If players are faster than her, then she just has to figure out what to do about it.

Thank you for the advice. It's really about speed. Just want her to run properly.

Not sure what you mean by properly. Running form?

It's not easy to change or improve running form. This is especially true to kids who have not run enough to settle down and whose bodies have not matured.

Raw speed? I don't worry about it that much at this age.

If you talk about agility and quickness, I thought every club offers agility and speed training, which I have seen result on my DD in a very short time.

But, what do I know? DD's first year in select not even started yet. lol!

I agree with skippy you don't want to push this. But if you must try, take her to a track in a cool day(good luck with that) and have her learn run easy, meaning slow with no problem to talk, and shoulder etc relaxed. Arm low and front foot landing right under her body or center or gravity. The elite way to train form actually is fast stuff. But one needs to run slow properly first.

The result is hard to say. At least, you don't risk your DD with the "pro", who most likely put her run hard right away.

Not known much about soccer, but I do about running having run 13 marathons including qualifying Boston 09 and rea a couple of running books.
