If I was a betting man, I'd say it came from someone with a 4A affiliation.

Rankings are simply the team's current record including tournaments adjusted for # OF ECNL PLAYERS, coaches, competition, grade classification of players (we don't want a lot of seniors), prior year record, etc.

That makes less sense than the actual rankings. It is pretty much left to your perception of the team's coach and competition.

By the way, ESPN no longer ranks HS teams. Sheldon Sealer, the brains behind the ESPN rankings, started his own website: http://elitesoccerreport.com/2013/01/15/girls-esr-top-50-jan-15/

Can't hold much weight in this poll either. Flower Mound is ranked #6. This after losing to Grapevine 0-2, Plano West 1-3, beating Boyd 1-0, and tying Northwest 0-0. Maybe the poll was from before the season started but would still question several of their rankings.

I think this just goes to show that there is not enough state wide interest in girls soccer to get an accurate ranking in place. Good thing we actually have playoffs!

Mission Sharyland is ranked on that poll as being Top 10 in state. LOL. I'm originally from that area, know that coach and even he would laugh at that. Boys soccer in that area is one thing, but the girls.... not even close, that shoots a HUGE hole in that poll.

That coaches association poll is notoriously innacurate. First, only members vote and not all coaches are members. Second, they try very hard not to offend anybody and include teams from every region.

I think most of these rankings work off "last year" and "body of work" reputation from past years.

I doubt any of them (ranking orgs) have really figured out how many starters are back (assuming the team was good last year) and if the new starters filling in from last year's seniors are better or worse. I guess college commits and # of ECNL would also help.

Even looking at pre-season tournaments may not be fully accurate as coaches are trying to figure out the best line-ups and combinations still.

Any top 10 Texas ranking that doesn't include Southlake simply hasn't done their research.


PW prevaled against Flower Mound last week and Marcus this week, but they will have their work cut out for them against Coppell, Urs and HP in the next couple weeks. I think they open district play against McBoyd ... these will all be good tests for PW. For my money I saw Sahcse (sp?) play yesterday and I thought they were as scrappy as anyone we've played.

I'm also curious how the toughness of district schedule will shape these teams for playoffs ... I know the tough district that PW was in last year (Marcus, Flower Mound, Allen and Hebron) really got us ready for the playoffs.

I can say for a fact that the list is flawed with major errors.

"# of ECNL PLAYERS", I would like to see where "# of ECNL Players" is included as a factor in the ranking.
