I believe this is what I heard: 300 girls total tried out

200 - '02
100 - '03

5 - '02 teams being formed
2 - '03 teams being formed

Can anyone else confirm this?

Just a question but did anyone who signed up as Defender in the '02 group make it? We had 2 defenders and 2 midfielders tryout. Both defenders did not make but both midfielders did make.

By numbers alone, it looked like the odds were better for the defenders to make unless they really aren't building a roster for the 5 teams based on position but just picking up techinical skills.

Our team had three '03 girls tryout, 2 midfield and 1 forward. The two midfielders were selected, haven't heard about the forward yet.

Son of a pitch you are correct. Based oon what Gary said at the final try out. There were a total of 90 02's selected plus alternates and 45 03's.

Curious as to why there were half the # of '03s vs '02s trying out. Because this was the 1st year for U11s (and some U10s)?

Congratulations on her making it. At least that makes me feel a little better, I thought maybe they were going to 10 Midfielders on the pitch to catch up to Spain.

My DD is a 02 defender and was selected as well. There were quite a few defenders trying out and some pretty stout ones at that so the path to selection on the backline wasn't real easy. I do also believe they look for defenders that possess a lot of midfield skills as well. In the end you never really know exactly what they are looking for.

My DD made it as a midfielder. What I found interesting though was in the 3rd tryout, when she went to the scrimmage portion, they initially played her at defender. They also played her at forward too, so I suspect throughout the training, our DD's will get looked at in different roles.

My DD was selected as well. The last day she played back, mid, and up top. I hope you're right and they are looked at in different roles. Having not hit her growth spurt yet, the jury is still out where she will end up long term. She has played a lot of defender in the past, but I selected midfield because I feel the position does a little of everything. Not sure how they use what is selected in the checkbox to determine how they are graded or where they will play.

I had no idea ODP was trying out for the 03's I thought they had one more year.

So if your DD didn't try out this year, how does it work for next year? I can see they would be at a disadvantage by not being there for 1 year, but I assume it's all about ability, not politics.

Do they have to try outs every year?

Yes Nfod. They have try outs every year. They only accepted about 45 03's this year.

Not sure how many more they will select after first year of trouts. They selected about 90 02s and 45 03s this year. Do they select 45 more 03s next year along with 45 04s?

I do know that the ones selected this year don't have to try out again as long as they stay in good standing by paying their dues and attending 4 out of the 10 practices.
