It'll be the same team we've fielded all season long.
Oh, a combination of all it is!!!
Since we had several girls join from Fever Red when it blew up over the summer, we've had exactly one new girl join the team.  This season we've used one guest player (a younger sister of one of the girls on the team) and I think had one girl play with us that was considering joining but didn't.
This isn't the first team any of our girls have ever played on, but unless the Pink Ponies signed up while I wasn't looking, that's normal.  What's your point?  Do you think it unusual to have kids join from another team?

Hope everyone is happy, looks like the tourney director heard everyone complain. now there are 2 divisions with 2 brackets and straight finals, instead of quarterfinals, semis, and then finals.  6 possible games now if your lucky 4. most everyone will go home after 3 games regardless of a one division or two.

Please! It was 6 possible games if you were one of the top 4, and likely 2 games where you got the crap beat out of you if you were one of the bottom.

That was a GLASA call to only have finals for 8-team divisions. Most tourneys I have seen have semi's for 8-team divisions.

GLASA made promises for 2 divisions - directly to coaches and that people relied on. They should only be expected to keep their word.

Well, that's one way for GLASA to save some money, by going from 31 games played to 26. I happen to agree that splitting out into two divisions is probably a good thing, but they really need to take the top two teams from each bracket and have a semifinals. They'd still be saving a game, and it would double the teams getting out of bracket play.

Agreed. And the sad thing is - all divisions / age groups with 9 teams or less only have 1 playoff game.

If you look at last year's results - any division / age group with 6 teams or more had a semi and a final.

It seemed they had semi but too many teams crying to play silver. With these teams they would have been better off being in gold and having quarter/semis.

But no, someone wants to post in their "accomplishments" winning Xara Fall Classic Championship (conveniently leaving off "silver" in the listing no doubt.)

Poor Dom, hard to imagine all of the complaining and crying is worth it. You just cant please everyone.

Let's set the record straight.

GLASA made promises to teams that there would be 2 divisions.  In addition, they posted above that if they reached 12 teams, there would be 2 divisions.  Teams relied on these promises and representations to enter the tournament.

Last year, all age groups exceeding 11 teams were split into 2 divisions.

The initial schedule did not split teams between silver and gold because a handful of "top" teams didn't want to face the best competition (all but 2 teams selected "silver").

Teams who had been promised or relied on the representations that there would be 2 divisions complained.  Teams also complained about the value of getting the crap beaten out of them.  (FBR #8 playing FBR #50, #11 playing #65, #15 playing #63, #17 playing #72)

Now, some teams wishing they had the opportunity to pad their win-loss record by beating up on grossly mis-matched teams are complaining.

"Top" is a relative term here. No disrespect, but from the standpoint of FBR rankings, there were really arguably only 2 "top" teams entered. Might those be the "all but two" referenced above? Did the teams who selected silver know the full listing of teams before they selected? In a "typical" tournament might silver not be the division most of these teams should rightfully be in? The primary issue appears to be the fact that most of the "top" teams opted to skip this tournament.

We're not '04's, but our Gold Division has 4 teams. Can't wait to get home and let my daughter know she made the quarterfinals! (YES!!!)

Were there really people commenting earlier that led me to believe they were disappointed they may not be able to play 6 games?

Registration ended early last week (though they filled the 16th position later).

Coaches / managers were asked about 8:30 on Sunday night if they wanted to be in gold or silver, so the teams knew full well who the competition was.

However, if all but 2 teams asked to be placed in silver, then at least 2 of the following didn't want to play the others:

Sting Goodman
Liverpool Barnes
Odyssey
GSSC Blue

So embarassing that they would ask to be placed in the silver division.

and yes, someone was disappointed that they would not have the chance (to beat up on lesser opponents in bracket play) for the opportunity to play 6 games

I for 1 am happy they split it into a gold and silver division, would have liked to have seen them do semis then finals. The new schedule should make for some more competitive games which is what these teams need before next spring comes around for this age group. I would rather see our girls take a close loss than just go in and blow a team out they get nothing from that.

Post by SouthlakeDad 07/11/13, 02:39 pm

I think the group play will be a lot more competitive with the gold/silver division.
That said, I wish they had semifinals. As it is, several teams that were a lock for the playoffs in the previous schedule will be done Saturday. That has to be disappointing- it's not necessarily the urge to beat up on lesser opponents. BW will tell you that beating a team 50 spots below you doesn't help your ranking.
Just to be clear, those 4 teams you list above will get to play at most 3 games total between themselves. It would have been better to have the gold bracket be just those 4 teams if there won't be semis.

I am ok with having silver and gold divisions, but also want semifinals.
Why are schedules down for all divisions? Too many cooks in the kitchen. Just pick a format and go with it. Someone is always going to be unhappy.

I'm sure this has been a tough job, and it's probably something you get much better at over-time (or you just learn to say no to schedule changes). They're trying to accomodate everyone and probably have more teams than they expected.

That said, I appreciate them fixing our Friday 8:30 pm / Saturday 8:00 a.m. schedule.

But I also agree that semifinals make more sense than the current set-up.

Someone needs to start at scheduler and tourney director ranking, now that would be helpful! Have it feed into a ranking system for tournaments for DFW...

Thank you for the support. Scheduling has been a tough job and we did try to accommodate everyone's request. The recent rain outs have also made it difficult as many of the leagues scheduled their rain out games tomorrow.

Also, in defense of Mike Malone. He does work a full time job during the day. He has run many tournaments for GLASA and has always done a great job.
