Can someone please tell me what the rules are in May and June for guesting and practicing with teams other than the one you are under contract with. I have heard many things. Basically I have heard that you canot guest for any team until July 1 without coach sign off.

You can practice with any team/club in the month of June. You will still need a release to play in tournaments and if you cannot get the current coach to sign off then all you have to do is request it from NTX. You will need a practice release during the month of May.

Through May - Must have Coach signed release to practice and/or guest play.
In June - Can practice with anyone but to play a tourney with them, must have a release signed by Coach or by NTX.

Both of the above are correct, but add in another wrinkle.
During June, if your current team is playing in a tournament and you want to guest during the same time period, you can only guest if coach releases you. North Texas will not override his objection since the team still owns you until July 1.
if you know you want to leave your team, get the automatic release by April 1, then you are free to practice and guest play with whoever will have you. if you have a coach who will accommodate you if you tell him after league ends that you are not coming back, that is great, but don't count on it.

Wow they really "got you". If you ask then it's a big red flag to the coach.

Yes it is (red flag), I think you will find it is always better to be up front with your coach about your intentions. This has worked well for us over the last 7 seasons with my older daughter. "Good" coaches understand the "game".
