This Year's QT Format

Plucked from an '04 thread:

They have changed the set up for the U11 QT this year.

weekend #1 - 20 teams to D1
all remaining teams (32) advance to round 2

weekend #2 - 10 teams to D3

Or from the LHGCL site:
After Round 1, the 13 Bracket winners and the next 7 teams with the highest point totals will qualify for Lake Highlands Girls Classic League in Division I. All other teams will advance to Round 2.

If this system had been used last year I believe:

Odyssey, Sting Goodman, Mutiny and Dallas Rush (last year's team names) would have made D1.

Warriors, Ft. Worth FC Black, Cosmos and Andromeda would not have made D1.

This is assuming Sting Sanchez would still have been DQed.

Of course, coaches may have coached differently knowing they could come in second place in their group and still advance.  Change the parameters of the QT and maybe the results are different.

It does seem an arbitrary change, I wonder what they feel is better about this format over last years?

It seems way more bracket dependent. In other words, if you get in a "group of death" there is no reprieve the next week.

Wow! That's interesting, and for the sake of my DD's team, I'm glad they didn't have the new format last year. Honestly, I think the old system would yield better results for determining D1 and DIII. Imo
