Tactical Awareness
Tactical Awareness
Midfielder skill level is improving at such a quick rate in NTX, yet the ability to really distribute from the middle, allowing teams to play hub-and-spoke possession from a central midfield quarterback, has lagged (probably due to the incredible athleticism in the area and platoon subbing which leads to bonsai defending).
I can't wait to watch and see how the different teams play with all the movement in the offseason. I think the quality will be fantastic.

Re: Tactical Awareness
can you expand on how the departure of the most tactically aware team hinders or helps advancing the tactical development of the remaining D1 teams? Trying to understand the cause/effect of 1 teams departure.HoldingMid wrote:In D1, it will be interesting to see how the tactical awareness, particularly in the midfielders, advances from last year (especially with the departure of the most tactically aware team).

Re: Tactical Awareness
As 03's I don't know as I don't follow this age group but I recall when my DD played at this age level it was under development. Heck every year is a year of development. My point is that each team is unique based on what scheme the coach teaches. DD team traditionally plays 4-4-3 but depending on the opposition the scheme they adjust to 4-3-3 or 5-4-1. Some teams don't even run with a holding mid. Every team distributes differently.HoldingMid wrote:Are there any true holding mids yet? "Sweepers" that guard the center-backs? Yes; but pivots between the lines I haven't seen much of.

Re: Tactical Awareness
Totally agreed, this is the year they start to learn this stuff and why I am really looking forward to it. Holding in general, as opposed to denial-of-space and diving in constantly, is something I saw rarely last year. A good holding mid will slow down the attack in order for the defense to regain shape and hunker down (and catch breath!).

are you serious? an 03 team with tactical awareness? most the 97's don't know what that means. heck, for that matter, most of the coaches don't know what that means!!

Re: Tactical Awareness
Are they running rotational 4-3-3 systems with collapsed 4-5-1 in defense or the like? No. :-)
