Field position question - Page 2 Empty Re: Field position question

I would think that holding mid-fielders and center backs would be in high demand at the college level. The building blocks of most successful teams begins in controlling the mid field and defending.

Plus one goal conceded two goals have to be scored. If my math is correct conceding less means not having to score as many. 2 goals conceded 3 goal must be scored at the next level 3 or more goals scored could be difficult.

defender and holding are usually a very in demand position at higher levels. Also keepers. Foward is the most difficult position to go anywhere.

Location : The Ahole TXsoccer deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they will hate me. Because I can take it. Because I'm not their hero. I'm a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight

Okay, yeah since about the start of U-12 and forward defensive heading and air control have been at a premium. 5'8" is a good starting height. Not saying shorter won't work, but the size of these forwards and attacking mids they continue to get taller.

Field position question - Page 2 Empty Re: Field position question

The position requires great timing, little margin for error, maturity in decision making and a great first touch. In soccer around the world, more captains come from defensive positions than anywhere else on the field. I see no problem in rotating players in positions for development purposes but many kids have an affinity for defense as much as some do for offense. If some NTX parents had their way, 11v11 would comprise of a gk and 10 forwards.

U-14 and younger the defenders are the players with parents least likely to leave a team due to position.  If your DD is one of these, focus their training on how to build and/or lead an attack from behind.  If their coach, or teammates, insists a defender's job is to "CLEAR!!", leave the team TODAY.  A youth coach's job is to develop field players.  Your DD will be at an advantage on the back line with the ability to see every play develop and become very tactically aware and skilled at not panicking under pressure.  Keep your 5'2" CB finishing skills fresh and she'll be a valuable commodity come recruiting time.  In fact, if she is 5'2" and playing at a high level, it'll say more about her game then it would if she is 6'1"

5'2" center back at he next level will struggle. College teams rely primarily on direct play and balls served into the box.
