Practice releases

Its that time of year. Does anyone have information on practice release requirements now that many players are USCS and NTX registered? Heard many different answers to this question, including that players on ECNL clubs are prohibited from obtaining practice releases until May 1 regardless of whether they are playing JDL or eligible to try out for ECNL for next year. Is there an interclub agreement between the big 5 on this?

Slow down brother, it is only March! Big 4 will most likely start tryouts for DA/ECNL/LH etc... 1st part of May if I was a betting type.

No matter what anyone say.. You can't practice with another team without a coaches release until after State Cup.. If the player is registered with NTX this is in the rules.. Finals for State Cup, May 13-14th.

May 1st is when things will get moving but SOAP is right State Cup is the official benchmark.

3.10.10 Soccer-PlayingYearforCompetitivePlayers
1. NTSSA has established the seasonal year as being from September 1 through August 31 However, these rules provide that a competitive player is a free agent beginning July 1. That player will continue to be a free agent until the player and /or his parents or guardian have signed a contract with a team. The period of August 1 of the prior soccer year through completion of State Cup competition for their age group, whether or not their team is participating in State Cup, or completion of league play for their team, whichever is last of the current soccer year is considered the soccer-playing year for competitive players. During the soccer-playing year, players are not allowed to try out, practice, or participate with any other team, unless they are a competitive player in the same club or registered as a guest player with another team, in which case the proper release must be signed by all parties. Practice with a team on which a player is registered as a guest player is permitted only if the practice dates are included on the guest player release. A competitive player practicing with a team in the same club is permitted throughout the seasonal year. Otherwise, a player may practice with another team if he has received a written permission letter signed by his current coach that sets out the dates and the team with which the player will practice. The player is to give the letter to the coach of the team with which he will be practicing, and he must keep a copy for himself. After completion of State Cup competition for their age group or completion of league play for their team, whichever is last (the end of the soccer-playing year for competitive players), players may practice with other teams without any required release or other permission, although formal tryouts may not be held until July 1. Players wishing to guest play in tournaments must always obtain a properly signed guest player release. (See Rule 4.7.1.) Contracts may be signed beginning July 1, although signing July 1 is not mandatory. After July 1 players who are not or have not been rostered to a team for the current soccer year may sign a contract for the current soccer year at any time. (This does not include indoor soccer.)

2. Failure to comply shall result in sanctions against the offending party (coach, assistant coach, manager, parent, or other team representative), which could include suspension from all soccer activities for a period of time to be determined by the NTSSA Competitive Committee. Allegations against registered youth players are subject to review before punishments are considered and punishment periods are at the discretion of the Youth Commissioner committee hearing such allegations.

Kind of funny, or sad, that it is LP folks who are the experts that can quote chapter and verse on limits on player movement.

actually those rules only apply to NTSSA registered teams. Which is a grey area. If the coach has no NTSSA teams then the practices are okay. If he has a registered team even if it is technically not that team is when things start to get cloudy. Bottom line don't trust your coach, team manager, or this forum. If you want to know what you can do call directly and explain your intentions. They will tell you EXACTLY what you can and can't do. That being said, it is my understanding that ECNL/DA clubs will not touch each others players until the open period. Anyone outside that is fair game. Oh and going the other way an ECNL player should be able to walk right into CL at anytime providing they weren't dual rostered

Why would a coach grant a practice release? Thats the same as telling your employer you need time off for a job interview. Their coach must really want to get rid of the player/parent/problem pretty bad to let them "tryout" for a new team in the middle of a season.

Typically, by now, the coaches and the players/parents have a decent idea on who definitely will not be returning to a team for the 2017-18 year. Most coaches, once their respective league play is complete, don't have a big issue with a practice releases. Usually, end of April-May is when same players start trying to find a new home for the coming soccer year.

I think it's often how players/parents maintain their communication with their coach about their intentions. If you are honest with the coach throughout the year, our experience has been most coaches will work with you. Most, that is...

Are any ECNL events going on for State Cup Weekend? that has huge implications (somewhat) on 03 and 04 outcomes.............................................................................................

State Cup is the official benchmark...
