FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018 Empty FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018

Post by FBR09G 29/05/18, 05:49 pm

Updated 09 FBR as of 5/29/18. Only 09 teams with 3 or more games played since 12/16/17 are included in the FBR published rankings. All games in the U9 leagues and tournaments that "publish results" are included.

FBR09 will also include any 09 teams playing against each other in the 08 division.  As long as the teams that are playing up are not using 08 players when playing against each other 09 teams.

Also, ranking points are derived from who you play and their tier(not your own tier) and, how well the teams you play do.  FBR is presented as W/L/T not W/T/L.  This FBR is the sole representation of FBR09,  any and all complaints(and compliments) should be directed to FBR09.  These rankings use the same software and criteria as with all prior year FBRs.

Feel free to PM or email if you think there is an error with your team or if you have any questions.  GotSoccer is generally used to determine team name/coach/club, please message me of any recent changes.

I'm sure it's been asked... is there a link to a post explaining how rankings are determined?

FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018 Empty Re: FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018

Post by NeverHome 29/05/18, 07:22 pm

This is the first time I’ve felt the rankings don’t make sense. DT South should have moved up to 2nd after Scarfone has lost 3 times in a row to Angelone (who didn’t move up btw). South is the only team to not only not get pounded by Rush, they tied them. South has gone 1-1 in their two games against Scarfone and they beat Colvin 6-1 and Angelone 2-0. Scarfone loses 4 times this month and drops one point in their score. Something just doesn’t seem right. It seems as if DTS is being punished for its loss to Kicks Santos (who probably borrowed players from the Kicks A team) and Angelone is being punished for their loss to Spirit but Scarfone is unaffected by their 0-3 record against Angelone. Are bad losses much more impactful than big wins? Am I missing something?

As soccergodtx said, it must be really complicated b/c I don’t get it... LOL!

Well dt south plays a lot of teams ranked 15 or higher. That also hurts them i believe, angelone beat samba, but lost to colvin and samba beat colvin but lost to angelone. It kinds of equals them out. Again Dt south played a lot of silver / bronze teams in a tournament a few weeks ago. Maybe they should have played u90 tournament instead to get moved up in rankings. Just my two cents

I think you hit the nail on the head. Playing teams out of your bracket can hurt you if the games are close. It is compared to how others do against similar teams. If you are playing silver or bronze teams, it will compare you to other silver or bronze teams.

No question that both Samba and DTS are great teams. I don’t think being #3 vs #2 matters much. Both are very talented teams.

The other thing that most people fail to consider is the games that fall off the backside of the FBR window are just as important as the new games. If a good win falls off and is not replaced with an equal win then your score will drop. Likewise a bad loss falling off will likely raise your score.

That makes so much sense. I get it now. Out of curiosity, I went back to look at Primetime’s scores this Spring and, Colvin did not get pounded by Rush, either. They only lost 2-1. I believe he has a keeper now. Consequently, no more 6-1 loses after that first game against DTS.
Either way, the top 5 teams are all great teams! Their coaches are doing a commendable job.

FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018 Empty Re: FBR09 Rankings May 29th, 2018

Post by NeverHome 29/05/18, 08:36 pm

I guess that makes sense except I would still expect Samba’s score to come down more and I would expect Angelone’s score to go up more. In fact, South’s score dropped by more points not playing in a tournament that counted towards the rankings than the points Scarfone dropped by in a weekend they went 2-2. And I will add that Scarfone also lost a win over Spirit and Angelone from the December “group of death” tournament dropping off. Scarfone not only lost twice they lost two top 10 wins, their strength of schedule declined and they dropped in number of quality wins... and still only lost 1 point.

I think the reality is that there is Rush then the next 4 (who can all beat each other on any given day) and then there is the rest after those top 5. I expected the “next four” to be tighter in their scores but Angelone is still 14 points off from Samba and two teams are still between them. How many times does a team have to beat another team to close a gap. South shouldn’t play in weak tournaments nor should Angelone but I’m not sure they should be punished for it either if they are both still playing top teams in addition. Not every ranking system will be perfect and FBR does a great job.

It’s just interesting to discuss.

I see what you are saying. It may be the volume of games DT and DTS are playing vs. the top 2 Solar teams. Samba had a pretty big loss to Rush fall off the front end.

There are lots of good teams on this list. The top 5 might be on a different level, but there are some other contenders that are starting to show up.

Even if someone beat Rush twice, they will probably still hold 1st in the ranking, but the team that beats them will probably be 2nd. Even blow out games do not make that much of a difference. Maybe angelone would have moved up more if it didnt lose against colvin

Looking at the game results, Scarfone has a loss to DTs and three losses to Angelone this spring. Angelone definitely could have helped themselves by beating Colvin. All in all the rankings are probably pretty accurate just would have thought the point gap would have been a little tighter in the 2-5 range.

Remember angelone drop a lot of points earlier in the spring season. That started the whole separation. Remember at one time 2,3,4, were all pretty close

Thanks for the update, FBR.

Soccergodntx,
Both Angelone and Scarfone lost to ESC once in regulation. Angelone lost to ESC a 2nd time in overtime in the semis as well and FBR09 decided after the tournament to change the rule that OT and PK losses would no longer be counted as ties and instead be counted as losses.

In that tournament, Colvin beat ESC, ESC beat Angelone and Samba, Samba beat Colvin and Angelone beat Samba... more evidence that 2-5 are interchangeable.

I’m enjoying the fun and cordial debate everyone!

I will also say DTS (soon to be Solar South) beat Challenge SC in Houston. I grew up in Houston and Challenge is a proud club with a storied past. Props to South for knocking them off, 4-2. It’s always nice when our top teams in NTX go to other regions and represent well. Good luck to all the teams going to Denver... bring home some hardware!

To clarify, these rankings are only for NTX clubs and the rankings are only impacted by games against other NTX clubs in the same age group or older (beating the top 10G team doesnt help but beating a mid ranked 08G team could). Winning a Houston tournament unfortunately does not impact the rankings unless there was any game against another NTX team. (I had all the same questions about the rankings a year ago when I first started following, and I am still a newbie)
