GSSC Thunder 07 is interested in playing 7v7 next season -- are there enough 07 teams interested, also, in forming a U6 (7v7) league around Grapevine? Maybe Primetime would be open to forming this if there is enough interest.

Wow...it's almost funny to see this thread, especially if you look back at the number of threads concerning getting back to smaller-sided competition to really focus on development. After one season of U-6 outdoor competition, several teams are already pushing to go from 5v5 to 7v7. Which means the next step will be to lower the age for 9v9 and 11v11 even more. Just curious--why the push to get on a bigger field with more players?

For Kicks 07 it is about competition. Last season we won all games in 5v5. If there is more competition in u6 than last year we would consider staying but at this age it is hard to tell who are the strong teams since the 07's are just beginning. So as stated in another thread Kicks 07's are looking at playing up against 06's.

Because they are that good and will roll over the competition...totally kidding.... I feel like I'm stepping into a minefield here...but here goes..fyi this is my first dd playing soccer and she's five...

8 game season. That is all we are talking. To me those 8 games the girls can start to learn to play, as they will next year) with a bigger field, more players, learn positions.

Development of skills to me is the 2 practices a week some of these girls are already doing. Plus, 8 games of small sided skill developing action can be had in 2 different 3v3 tournaments.

I think our girls played 5 games at the recent KickIt tourney. Between Kickit and the start of fall season I would envision another 3 or 4 3v3 tourney's. So let's say 4 tourney's averaging 4.5 games plus the 5 we just played... that is 23 games of small sided vs 8(if no rain) of 7v7.

So at least in my mind, not pushing for 7v7 over small sided, just have a little 7v7 to learn the game. My dd will have 3 to 1 ratio of small sided vs 7v7.

Should I be thinking differently?

I'm definitely not telling you how to think...I was just curious why the rush. This topic goes up for debate constantly--just look at some of the general discussion and the topics chains in some of the older groups. We just seem very eager to push the boundaries younger and younger in regards to larger teams and full-sided soccer here in north texas. Based on the responses, I am just curious why you wouldn't push for a gold and silver in U-6 versus adding to team size if goal is better competition.

Good luck to all the teams, whether they choose 5v5 or 7v7.

I don't think its a push to play 7v7 as much as it is a desire for challenging competition as DKSC said. I know of a few 07 groups who've had very uneven outdoor experience in PYSA and/or rec leagues.

Some of these are looking at SDL in an attempt to play better competition. The league just happens to be 7v7.

Which academy leagues are playing 5v5 for the u07 age group this Spring? Which are playing a different format?

I willa ssume you mean 07 or U6...(vs U7 which are 06s)

Primetime 5v5 in Grapevine
SDL 7v7 in The Colony or at DYSP in Plano

PSA is an option and 7v7.

PSA in age group is horrible(rec teams are pretty weak) but can play up in 1st. They get used to faster more physical play that way.

At U6 their aren't a great deal of options.

We are in no rush to move up to 7v7. We wouold consider 6v6, but like the touches of 5v5 for this age. And it is what you play in Futsal which everyone seems to be moving towards in the off seasons, so there must be something good behind it.

Personally think Gold/Silver for Primetime is the best idea. Besides, it's only for more more season, then they have to move up to 7v7 or 8v8, so why rush it? Let the girls get the extra touches while they can.

A couple of teams would prefer 5v5 as well, but PT's location is a non-starter.

ditto...

I know there are quite a few(I know of 4 just near Allen) clubs with 4 - 6 girls right now and just don't have enough to play 7v7.

If PT had something closer, being from Allen, SDL and PSA which are both 7v7 is what we have to play. Grapevine for a 5 year old is not an option.

If what is wanted is 5v5... I just left Dallas Indoor down in Richardson and Mauricio approached me about the league they are looking to start in February. 5v5, with the option of weeknight and/or Saturday morning games.

No walls, 5v5, turf field... we have a group looking at it as of tonight for Saturday games.

We train just south of 635 off Royal lane.

We'd like to setup a scrimmage with your team. Maybe we can get a couple of more 07 teams for a round robin. The Colony is pretty far for just one game. We have a few girls that live in Duncanville.

The guys at SDL said if we can get enough '07 teams together, we can form an exclusive 6v6 league. Otherwise, the '07s will be mixed in with the '06s for 7v7 at SDL.
