Ok. As mentioned before, 3 teams are in for that already. I will contact Jason at SDL and let him know to expect emails from teams for the 6v6 '07 exclusive league.

How about switching the Primetime Feb tourney to 6v6. Chance at PT said he would if the teams all agreed to it

Istanbul, we would consider an exclusive 07 league - if 1) 6v6 or 5v5 and 2)games on sunday afternoons at BS Colony. Any idea of the price and registration deadline?

Kop - you know we agree with 6v6 for the tournament so talley the votes accordingly - Chance seemed to think it was likely.

Doesn't matter to me either way...our coach can decide if 7v7 or 6v6... just remember I think the fields are 40x60. So bigger than nearly everyone has played on. 5 little kindergarteners on a side on a 40x60 pitch... might want to think of that. Or is my memory not correct on this snowy morning and the field is smaller?

Kicks 07 prefer 7v7. The field is way too big for 6v6.

Kicks, if you'd prefer 7v7, you will get to play that with the '06s.
For everyone else, please contact Jason & Rick at SDL, sdl.dysp@gmail.com , to let them know you'd like to be in the '07 girls 6v6 league. There should be 5-8 teams registering if everyone gets it done.

I'm simply trying to get the coaches on board.. everything from there needs to have Jason & Rick involved regarding ironing out the details. I personally don't mind 7v7, but I do mind playing up against '06s.

Will Jason and rick be modifying the field size for 6v6. Big field and little legs don't really make for great developmental soccer.

Keep it small, keep it tight, make them use skill.

I'd imagine they'll be using the same field as 7v7, but then again, I don't know Rick & Jason's capabilities or willingness to change it up. You'll also be surprised to find some teams out there that can pass long distances already!
The way I see it, training and practices are the most important thing at this age. Even when we move it to 6v6, and even on a smaller field, sure, they're getting more "touches," but it's miniscule compared to training.
I'm just trying to help the '07s get an exclusive league where they can have some fun because what is for sure is playing against '06s will certainly not be good for their development. The rest we can debate another time, if you don't agree.

PSA, field is perfect size for 6v6, refs suck, but hey its just for fun right. They bill it as 7v7, but hey they can't make you put a 7th player on the field.

If you have to start emphasizing passing long distances then you diminish the number of touches even more.

I agree, training is the most important thing, especially if an 07 is going to be bombarded with "pass the ball, pass the ball". They should be encouraged to dribble, be creative, and work with the ball under pressure. Trying to do that on an oversized field could just tire them out sooner.

I'm all for what ever you guys can line up for them. Just giving my opinion, isn't worth much, but I'm bored at the office. Haha

Lstanbul- my post was in reference to Primetime tournament. The size of fields that would be used for u7 and u8 (7v7) would be too big for 07's (u6) to play on.

Agreed about Primetime.

Androfan, agree to disagree. If players (or just one player since they don't pass) are dribbling around with their head down like they're in their own back yard, isn't that what rec is for? Or, their back yard? Even at five years old, the game can be taught and played properly. In training, they can dribble dribble dribble.

I leave the thread with one last suggestion: contact Jason & Rick and let them know you want to do the 6v6 SDL league sooner than later!

Chance at PT said they would utilize smaller fields for the PT tournament (not the same 7v7 fields) if e regime agreed to play 6v6.

Now, i know those LP coaches arent teaching their players to dribble around with their heads down. Haha come on now.

A player should not be dribbling endlessly, but dribbling as needed, with confidence, and without fear.

Maybe what we disagree on is the fundamentals of how the game should be played. Ill take an Iniesta, messi, xavi, Hazard anyday of the week over a Lampard for example.

A player confident with the ball at their feet, head up, and moving is a thing of beauty.

Kicks SC 07 has several of them... great group to watch.

I think it's officially time for Androfan to change his/her username to:
a) Kicksfan
b) Kickspromoter
b) KicksCL (CL = cheerleader)

Gophers asked me about that once. It has nothing to do with the club. I'm simply an Android phone fan. I like my tech toys. Hence Androfan.

Androfan,
as a matter of fact, LP Gerrard in The Colony are spreading the field and playing keep away with two and three touch passing play already, and each player has demonstrated the ability to use a variety of skills. Take it easy with the insinuations that Liverpool coaches don't know what they're doing. I'm sure you are excited about your team, but there are teams that have already been training multiple times a week over the past 8 months. Not to mention the Texans and Solar both have great coaches with '07 teams.
This is, for certain, building up for some great hype and action in the tournament!
Have Kicks signed up for 6v6 SDL yet?

Also,
All of those guys you mentioned have incredible skill, but play 1 and 2 touch soccer and only use it if needed.

I wasn't insinuating anything. There are some very good coaches at LP. Just having some fun with what you describe as a player dribbling endlessly with their head down. That simply is not proper form and shouldn't be permitted.

I didn't list Neymar as an example, because yes, the kid is a selfish showboat. Amazing one on one player, but its a team sport.

No idea if they have signed up. My DD is an 06, I know most of the 07s well several havebeen playing up with both 06 squads. Great kids and families.

Kickball, training includes whatever they do at home, other teams they play on, other games they play in.
