That is at the discretion of the ref. The keeper must wear a color that differentiates her from both her own and the opponent's team. If the team is wearing white and the gray is light, then perhaps not...if it is a dark gray, then as long as it doesn't mix with the opponent, then it should probably be okay...but again ref's decision.

In my soccer years, I haven't seen it be a big issue if there was a pretty obvious difference between the GK and the field players. There are some refs who have to "establish control" by micromanaging that issue, but most will be reasonable.

BTW-I would encourage the outrageous colors that attract the eye...especially at a younger age, the traffic cone colors tend to draw shots into the middle of the chest...Just IMO, but it is human nature to find the outstanding color. I know there may be some blow back on that last comment, but the subconscious drives the bus, so old habits are hard to break.

Yes, they should be able to wear grey but its up to the referee what they will/will not allow. If they think it conflicts they might make you change. Darker grey to me should never be an issue I can see how a lighter grey might be too close to white. Usually if i ever have a conflict I generally ask the players and coach pre game if they are ok with jersey and that they can clearly tell who the GK is.
