What the parent says - versus what the parent means Empty What the parent says - versus what the parent means

When a Parent speaks – what do they really mean?

When a parent says they have a Drama-free team
It really means: they have beaten everyone who dissents into submission.

When a parent says they traded their BMW for a Smart Car because it was too cute to pass up
It really means: Their daughter’s soccer tournaments costs just went up

When a parent says, “No we are not at the fields yet”
What they really mean is: Ask again and we will arrive with you tied to the roof rack

When a parent tells a ref, are you sure about that?
What it really means is: You are wrong, you are delusional, and you need to rethink what you just said/did.

When a parent says to a coach, Mmm, uhuh without eye contact
It really means: I’m so not listening to you

When a parent says to a coach, Mmm, uhuh with eye contact
It really means: How long do I have to stare at you and nod my head before you walk away?

When a parent says to their daughter, we’ll see in response to a request for a pair of $200 cleats
It really means: Not gonna happen in your lifetime, so quit asking.

C'mon ref!! at just about any time during a game, other than when there is a call to be made. yesturday in a U10 acadamy girls game, there was this one nagging voice that said it at least 50 times. the one that really made me laugh was right before a player on her own team ws getting the ball to throw it in. I suspect if she talks in her sleep, she is probably dreaming of a soccer game, and there are frequent outbursts of "c'mon ref!!" and which scares the kids and makes the dog bark.

The parent says, "We're 5 minutes away." What the parent really means is, "We're 12 to 15 minutes away."

Heard a parent of a 6-yr old screaming at the top of his lungs, "Turn and GO!! Turn and GO!!!!"

At the time the ball was 20 feet in the air from a keeper punt. I have no idea what he actually meant.

When the parent says, "We were pleased with the result", it means "I thought we were going to lose 10-0, but we only lost 8-1".
