O5's qualifying Empty O5's qualifying

Post by gohuskers 23/01/15, 09:41 am

As I looked at the list of 05's playing in CFBAL, there are so far 38 teams in Platinum and Gold...I am curious what chance any of the teams in silver A have at qualifying for LH. I know things will change a lot before QT...just interested in hearing what has happened in previous years when there are so many good teams.

In all honesty slim to none... But never say never... Every yearsomething out of the norm happens.

There may be the occasional upset, but the brackets to get in will definitely be some tough ones for the Silver teams. Historically, gopher's FBR rankings are pretty spot on (with a few upsets, but not many). I think (pure conjecture on my part) that having so many teams playing one league gives LH a much better picture for bracket set up. Makes it easier for them to rank the teams when they can look at head to heads and comparable games easier. But I could be wrong (and often am :-) )

Yep - should help them a lot.

Because they definitely, positively, absolutely, and without a doubt, do not look at or in any way reference gopher's FBR when seeding teams.

The reference part I believe. The not looking, not so much. :-)

Say if by chance they peeked at FBR, would LH typically seed teams ranked 30 thru 40 against teams in the top 10?

There are a few teams that played CFBAL Silver in the Fall and got a pretty good bump in the last few FBRs.  We will see how they do in Gold in the Spring.

They don't look at, sneak--peek, or even know about FBR. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

However, if they did (and for explanation) -

Each year varies a little, but basically, rank the teams 1-?  (lets argue 56 teams go through qualifying).

Teams are seeded into 4-team brackets in a serpentine approach - so teams 1-14 are the top seed, then seeded backwards, so 15 plays 14, 16 plays 13, etc.

Follow same method to distribute all teams - so #1 will play 28, 29, and 56.

In most years, each bracket winner made D1 (so in this case, the 14 winners), a certain number were eliminated, and the remaining teams returned the second weekend for the last slots in D1 and the D3 slots.  (they may do 24 returning teams in 6 brackets of 4, winners in D1, 2nd place in D3, and remaining 4 highest points also in D3)

Last year, bracket winners plus next highest points were placed in D1 to completely fill D1.  Then, all remaining teams (no eliminations) came back weekend #2 for play for the D3 slots.

In the past, the exact selection process for that year was a closely guarded secret until the first weekend brackets were posted.

There are also teams listed in silver that won't be around come summer or won't even sign up for Qualifying...
