Clubs dual register players/rosters. This keeps a player from just leaving for the other sanctioning entity. Been done since day 1 of jdl.

Select Question for Veteran Parents - Page 2 Empty Re: Select Question for Veteran Parents

A player is not allowed to guest play in JDL. All players must be registered to the club of the JDL team they wish to play with. A release to rec does not allow your player to sign with another club until the end of the season. If you can't officially sign with the club of the team you want to play JDL with, you can't play JDL.

Given JDL is a development league with no scores, this rule serves the clubs to prevent player movement. I would rather JDL follow the same lines as academy that allows player movement in order to provide a means for girls to continue their development when the nuclear option is used by leaving their team mid season.

Leaving a team mid season is a big deal for all involved (coach, team, player, and parents). My advice is to take a step back, take a breath, and understand why you are making this decision before you make it. I am one who teaches my girls to honor their commitment and suck it up, but there are legitimate reasons why players should be given full releases from their team.

Any decent coach will give you a full release for the right reasons. I have experienced on multiple occasions where wonderful young ladies were given full releases by their coach because it was in the best interest of both player and team to do so. I won't get into what I think these reasons are because they are different for each player/team/coach/club. Just know, it is possible to get a full release and don't just accept the standard answer you get from some of the clubs out there that "we only release to rec as a policy". Full releases are available from the clubs who truly put the kids first.

In my experience (full disclosure I am a parent of multiple players and not a coach or an owner of a club), coaches refuse to give full releases because of parent behavior, not the player.

Good luck.. If you would like to chat further, message me and we can take this off-line.

Select Question for Veteran Parents - Page 2 Empty Re: Select Question for Veteran Parents

Next question: If you get a full competitive release, but do not want to sign a contract with another team until the following soccer year, can you -

1) Guest play in LHGCL with multiple different clubs?

2) Guest play in tournaments with multiple different clubs?

Thanks AtThePitch, so if you don't plan on joining another competitive team until next year, there is no benefit in doing a full competitive release versus a release for rec. Unless I am missing something.

release to rec she can play rec... thats it. at this point in the year its not exactly tournament time as leagues have started, so besides DIGC.. you have nothing until end of April/May...

you are correct

SelectSoccerGirl wrote:release to rec she can play rec... thats it.

not exactly - she can freely practice with any competitive team who will have her (although unsure that many coaches take on prospects during league play)

at this point in the year its not exactly tournament time as leagues have started, so besides DIGC.. you have nothing until end of April/May...

now that is dead on

the release to rec by April 1 gets you freedom to practice and guest play with anyone who will have you. (this assumes DD does not intend to play State Cup) this can give you a leg up, i.e. more time to sample teams/coaches. otherwise you must wait until the day after State Cup ends (May 14) and then you must get guest-play releases from your old coach until June 30.

Hello—is there a minimum number of players required for a team to go select? Is there a maximum? Trying to do my homework before we get there! Thanks-

Yes. 12-16 for U11 at Lake Highlands.

To get max payout they like 16 plus they can allow for scholarship wo getting chewed out from corporate. 15 and 16 get charity minutes...not worth it.

Pay to play isn't picky if you have cash money! There's always more spots to fill in the ponzi scheme. The layers keep expanding and the facts get skewed.

Thanks for the answers. This is our first go round...What about for leagues besides Lake Highlands? Is the minimum number 12 for select no matter where you play?

Maybe, along similar lines: what happens to a team that doesn't get to a minimum number? Do they get reassigned to another coach/team, if they are good enough? Are they S-O-L?
