How about just away? Southlake could charter a jet for the team, staff and parents.

We better raise the prices in the concession stand and find a way to get more people out there. Maybe tell them it is a football game instead of a futball game.

Powerade Fab 50 Rankings - Page 2 Empty Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings

Post by u95g dad 13/02/12, 01:28 pm

I expected Boyd to get the #1 ranking with SLC and Marcus losing. I would think they would be #1 in the National Ranking as well since #3 lost. There is a good chance they will stay there until playoffs and maybe the rest of the year if they run the table.

I was surprised to see Plano West #2. I understand they beat Marcus but they also lost to Fossil Ridge (not that long ago) and tied two other teams. I would think SLC and Marcus would both be ahead of West since each only have one loss and both were to strong teams.

And where is Ridge in the rankings? I know they have some quality wins against PW and Coppell and played SLC tough. They must have some bad losses as well.

Thankfully, it will all be determined on the pitch but it is fun to talk about anyway. cheers

Powerade Fab 50 Rankings - Page 2 Empty Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings

Post by Kenshi Dave 13/02/12, 04:20 pm

I think there are many high school teams that play their entire bench in pre-season tournaments and non-district games. Coach is testing combos and chemistry. Once district season starts, most coaches have there starting 11 set and there are only 4-5 steady subs.

I want to say Fossil Ridge only scored one goal the entire Marcus Tourney ... and it was enough to give them the win against PW that night.

ECNL Feb 24-26 should be interesting ... anything could happen Friday night Feb 24 as most ECNL 97s (Not Texans), 96s, 95s, and 94s head to San Anton. Of course there will be ramifications on Tuesday Feb 28 as girls that bagged HS on Friday, might be benched some on the following Tuesday.

Looks like 7-5A scheduled around that as no games are scheduled on 02/24/12. It is a different story in 8-5A. I am curious to see how much, if any, it will affect these games.

Fri 02/24 (per sportsmobility.net)

19:30 Hebron HS vs. Marcus HS
19:30 Lewisville HS vs. Plano East HS
19:45 Flower Mound HS vs. Allen HS
19:45 Plano HS vs. Plano West HS

Are there any other ENCL coflicts coming up?

Plano West may be the best team in the state (I know they are good) but I just don't think they warranted the #2 ranking based on their results to date. I am sure the people who do the rankings don't consider (or even know) if PW played their froshman team when they got beat.

Definitely not opining on any individual game or team ... just noting that I wouldn't put much weight on early or non-conference games.

Doubtful anyone could do a good job of ranking schools at this point ... we are just at the start of conference play ... maybe in A COUPLE WEEKS WHEN EVERYONE HAS BEEN THRU THE DISTRICT ONCE.

You're not really playing the coach is trying new things argument, are you? Every team plays their whole bench in the preseason games.

Not sure about any bad losses for the Ridge...I know there were some losses early during pre-season tourneys where bench was emptied and coach was tinkering with line-ups and such...I believe there was one game where an outside mid ended up playing keeper.. Shocked

Rankings this early are fun to talk about, but I agree that they will hold more value after everyone has gone thru the district @ least once.

I would agree about no bad losses for Ridge. They've been competitive in every game. I find it hard to believe they are not in these rankings either. I guess thats what you get when you're in a district with SLC, Coppell and Keller. That's reminiscent of the murderers row lineup for the '27 Yankees. Ridge has beat Coppell, lost to SLC, and has Keller next Tuesday. They are fun to watch for sure.

SLC - thought Ridge was going to pull that one out...had SLC on the ropes early in that one...they came out for the 2nd half with some intensity.

Coppell - great game..well played by both sides

Keller @ Ridge....should be a great game...hoping to see some good soccer (or @ least good HS soccer anyways Cool

Unc ... I think we're saying the same thing ... pre-season and pre-district games are not a real indicator of anything.

I'm not talking my DDs team ... I'm talking all teams.

Once district starts things get a bit tighter.

Not that they are BAD losses by any means, but I'm confident the reason that Fossil Ridge isn't on his rankings is because of their losses to Allen and Hebron. Allen and Hebron have had other losses/ties that have dropped them out of his rankings as well. So, despite Ridge's wins against Coppell and Plano West, the combination of all factors/competition has likely left Fossil Ridge just outside the Texas Top 20 in his mind. Just my two cents...

Although that's only the case until next year when Guyer drops back down to 4A and Denton Ryan moves up to 5A. Very Happy

Denton Ryan also seems to have a strong girls soccer program for what it's worth.

Thankfully, it will all be determined on the pitch but it is fun to talk about anyway. cheers

My take on these standings is obviously it starts on previous year and I think they put a lot of weight on what was the old Nolan Showcase. So bad or not noticeable previous year, don't play in the showcase and you get what you get. Doesn't make it right, Ridge has a fine team but from 10,000 feet they may not be seen.........yet.

Yes, you're take is exactly right. Previous year results seem to influence the rankings heavily (until proven to be inaccurate through current year play). The fact that the old Nolan Showcase pits "ranked" teams from Texas, Florida & California and as such is the only real chance to evaluate cross-state competition would explain the weighting given to that event. I'm sure the fact that the individual doing the ranking personally attended all of the games played at TCU also plays into the weighting given to results from that tournament (for the better or worse). As you suggest, everything else in the rankings is then a result of making comparisons to those data points until proven otherwise on the field. Not a bad system, but it's not perfect either. I've yet to find one that is...

I've always thought that someone taking the time to publicly acknowledge and evaluate girls' soccer on a national platform (as well as those that play it) is a very good thing. So kudos to him/them for their involvement. At this point it's fun to have any kind of ranking as a reference point to help frame our "discussions" and biases. Smile
