USYSA does not have have any say over the rules or playing format of non-USYSA leagues like TGPL, SDL, PYL, or PSA
USYSA governs NTSSA. USYSA encourages 9v9 play in U11 and U12. Apparently, NTSSA does not listen to USYSA, either.
(Note: I am not advocating 9v9 play in U11 and U12.)

Flamethrower wrote:sorry, re-read my post.. Need to change it. NTSSA DOES listen to the USYSA and USSA Formats and highly encourage it.. Coke classic and Lake highlands are the ones that have not followed the lead in 8v8 in U11 and U12. This TGPL runs 9V9 on massive fields at way to young ages. For the most part the rest of the country has followed the lead of the high archy.. Our leagues, not state orginization have not.. The bottom of the pyramid such as the TGPL is horrid! The founder had way to much vinegar and set it up all wrong based on his lack of coaching knowledge. Money but no soccer savy!
I can see you are a fan of the one-size-fits-all model of learning.
There are only 12 teams playing TGPL in U9. More than half of these kids have been playing organized soccer for 5 years and have TWICE the experience and game knowledge of your average U11s and U12s across the country.
Many U11s and U12s on average in the US have only been playing soccer for 1-2 years... and what about new players? Are they ready for 9v9 and 11v11 all of a sudden just because they are older with no experience?
Also, the U9s and U10s in TGPL play 3v3 and 5v5 small sided games regularly along with their twice a week practices where they often run small side games scrimmages. These girls are getting PLENTY of touches.
Thankfully there are leagues for the "honor" students of the game less they be held back by the one-size-fits-all underachievers.

Re: TGPL schedule
You have to understand that it is hard enough to make the 8 years of select from U11 - U18.. Burn out, Injury, other sports, etc. - You guys are adding 2 to 3 years onto this already though process.
You also dont realize what so ever that you have no idea who the stars of your agegroup are going to be until after puberty. period, point blank.. So all those U11 and U12 players that are " less experienced" still may whip the TGPL U9 star by middle school.
You can also agrue with me all say on this - just understand you are also aruing with the following..
The USSF
USYSA
English FA
Brazil FA
Germany FA and most of the world FA ( with exception to the Russian FA)
Justify it all you want in your parental eyes.. Your/you all are doing more damage than good. Patience is a virtue and your tying to rush little ones faster to make you happy.
Test it - Keep track of all these players, track their progress and see how many non TGPL girls are one top of the 04 age group in 5 or 6 years.

We have a winner folks!! Spot on.. This is exactly correct, though your average soccer parent will not understand this..

The guidelines set by these organizations are GENERAL guidelines... they are for the masses and in GENERAL they are right. They don't apply to 100% of the population.
This is simple logic. Can you explain to me how a 12 year old who has never played soccer in their life is somehow magically ready for 11v11 and an 8 year old who has played 20+ seasons of organized soccer under good training and dozens of small sided games is not ready for 9v9?
One's advancement through the degrees of soccer or ANY SKILL should be based on that individual and not some cookie cutter roadmap designed for the average person.
If you think everyone learns at the same pace and should be taught to the lowest common denominator I can't help you.
Should all 8 year olds play big field 9v9? NO... most should not be. That doesn't mean players who are ready for this should be held back.
TGPL makes up less than 2-3% of girls playing soccer in north texas. No one is trying to expand TGPL to everyone.
And no... it's my 3rd kid through this process thanks.
