Pick up games Empty Pick up games

Post by Guest 29/12/12, 04:09 pm

Wanted to see what the interest was for pick up games this Spring. Plano/Allen/Richardson area.

3v3 or 4v4. Throw down some cones, pug goals and let them play... basketball courts and mini goals to play futsal, etc...

Just looking to get some fun, unstructured steet style play going on. Maybe pick a different city each week for it, different format each week.

Any thoughts??

Allen has an outdoor inline hockey rink, complete with mini goals. Always vacant. Perfect for some modified futsal.

Well, first thanks for putting this together, but I have to say that there were entirely too many girls there to get any good touches and time on the field.

Alot of Dallas Kicks for sure so it seems that $5 a kiddo did somebody very well! I would guess at least $400??

If this is something that parents/coaches choose to continue, may I suggest you DO limit the number of girls as you said you would be doing, and that you split the 05's & 06's, and most importantly that you do NOT include any fourth graders along side my 1st grader!

We will not be coming back, it was not beneficial for my dd!

Don't you just love it when someone starts out with a kind word of thanks before publicly trying to rip you a new one? lol!

somebody just gave good old Tom a hard on!!

Full disclosure.

Field rental fee for 2hrs. $130

35 girls showed up at $5 a head = $170

Profit made of $40. This profit will be used to buy more bibs to use for the players when doing this in the future. It will be done again.

I didnt do it for money.

Word was spread, X number said they were coming... more showed up than expected. Lesson Learned.

I did this once with Tom before at Andromeda. Free of cost, Tom and I even spent I think it was 3 hours lining the fields with Pops riding the mower. Ah, the good old days. haha

I appreciate the constructive comments on this. Lessons were learned and I have already started planning the next one. Hopefully outdoors, which of course means more fields can be set up.

For those that attended and enjoyed it, Im glad. If you did not I hope you try it again the next time and I can change your opinion.

If we are not using a field that has to be paid for there would never be a charge, and tonight I couldnt stop taking the $5 from everyone once I had collected enough for the fee, how would it have been fair for X number to not have contributed.

Sorry, i did not mean any disrespect. I really do appreciate the attempt. And, i do not think it was done for the money, but there was NO way you could have possibly kept up with who paid & who didn't. Way too many in the limited space.

And, unfortunately my kid was one of few that came purely independant just to play soccer and spent alot of time watching. I know it wasn't intended. It was just disappointing for her. I saw most of your girls (Kicks, i presume) playing together as a team when it was supposed ro be randomly chosen.

My dd is only 7, loves to play, so we gave it a shot. I am not a coach, not a club, not trying to ruffle feathers-just wanted her to have fun. But, glad to know you will only improve.

Post by Guest 13/01/13, 09:49 pm

No offense taken.

There were players spread across 5-6 different kicks teams. It may have appeared the way you saw it only because all of these girls know each other well. Train together or side by side, and play together, regardless of what Kicks team they are assigned to.

Heck there was an 08 out there at one point because she wanted too and the girls supported her.

The open outdoors session was canceled because of the rain and cold. I had kicks kids interested in playing and then sent an email out to the distribution list to finish it off.

More showed up than stated were coming. Next time, outdoors, the numbers wont matter... plenty of cones and pugs to mark fields and split em up.

Hope to see you next time around.

Tom, she wasn't a 4th grader. Simple as that. Big girl, they are out there.

I love how you have a need to post on anything I do. Man crushing at his best. Keep it up buddy, keeps us laughing.

Well, actually she was. She told my dd when i was standing behind her. Let me just say that my dd can hold her own with the young lady. She has an 04 sis & they go head to head all day long. My issue with this particlar event was that i specifically wanted my 06 to be playing with her peers. The 03/04 dominated the field when my dd played (duh, like that wouldn't happen).

Kicks doesn't have any 03s, but she can be ahead a grade. Again, lesssons were learned. The point was fun. From the emails and texts I have received that's what happened.

Can't please everyone.

Oye vey... I don't even have any 03s on my distribution list. Maybe the lesson learned is stuff like this needs to be kept in house and let the other clubs set up their own for their kids. I wonder what they will charge?

This would be considered negligence! Buyer Beware!
It is people like you that give NTX soccer a bad name. The type of "people" I speak of are the "WANNABES"

You wanted to be from England so you sported a fake accent. Everybody knows you are from the south. Drop the charade.
You wanted to be an academy coach so you came up with a fake history and tried to start a team but noone bought it.
You wanted to be a know it all so the coach showed you and your DD the door.
Now you wannabe a legal consultant by telling people to get insurance for a pick up game and now claiming negligence. Did you have insurance when you played hoops in your neighbors yard. Crap wait they dont play hoops in England but tuen you are not British now are you.
Finally you wannabe Androfan so you try to rain on his efforts to do something positive.

Buyer Beware?!? Consider the source. Try something original wannabe and stop posting on things you know nothing about. We are on to you.

Well my dd broke a sweat, got some good touches and played side by side with some different players that played at mixed skill levels. Thought this evening was a good tool in my dd's development. Not an easy event to put together this time of year with everyone fighting for indoor facilities to play on. Lots of players showing up? That's a good problem to have. Look forward to seeing some new faces at some future pick up games. Opinions and suggestions are good, these events can only get better from here.
