Oh my goodness! Yes. Many kids discover they want more, some want less. It's after the first year that most kids (and parents) figure out what it's about and what they actually want. Going into select you have no idea what you are signing up for, but it's pretty clear at this point whether or not it's right for you and your DD. Use May (with release) and June (no release) to figure out what you want! Wish you the best!

For the '01's...

In terms of roster turnover, I don't have exact numbers, but based on situations I actually know about, plus many conversations I had, plus information posted in the forum, I feel pretty confident in saying that the average roster turnover for LH D1/D2 teams from U11 to U12 was ~25-30%. That's somewhere around 4-5 players turning over on an average roster size of 15. Some teams had less, some teams had more, but 4-5 seems to be about the average. I have less info on the LH D3/PPL teams, but my guess is that it isn't much different.

As far as teams folding, for the '01's, one team from the U11 D1 Supergroup folded (FC Dallas West - finished 16th). 3 out of 4 of the teams that finished at the bottom of D3 folded (Fusion Navy, Andromeda Blue, and LP Hunt), and the 4th (Kicks East) failed to re-qualify. As a matter of fact, for the '00's and '01's combined, none of the 8 teams that finished in the bottom four of D3 at U11 managed to re-qualify for D3 at U12.

25-30% sounds about right after year one. When my older dd finished her first year of Select there was a lot of movement. There will be girls and their parents who are not happy in their current situation that will look around. The big question is and what I noticed with some of the clubs that had more than 1 team in the top 10. There will only be 1 ECNL team for that club and we saw several parents positioning their dd on other teams knowing that they will be with an ECNL team and not fighting 30-45+ kids of the same skill when the time comes. Some girls on your top teams today will also be surprised when other girls join their team and take their play time.

Who knows what will happen after this year but expect a lot of movement starting after the 1st season. It will pick up each year as you get closer to ECNL. That is where the top players want to be.

Not important yet for this age, but will become important for top players as you get older.

ECNL, Elite Clubs National League. Many of the best players are on these teams. That means that the players on these teams are much more likely to be seen by college recruiters and they are competing against many of the best players from all around the country. Just google ECNL

How are the age breakdowns on the ECNL teams? Are they by actual birth year or soccer year? Are the teams "age pure" or do some girls play up?

U-13 first year of ECNL , teams are made up of players that have appropriate soccer year and yes some girls do play up!

Currently ECNL starts at U14. The year for ECNL is 8/1 to 7/31. Kids can and do play up.

I was thinking about the 2000's. they are already going through tryouts. Their official start would be U-14 thanks for the clarification Gunner!

1. ECNL age groups for the 2012-2013 ECNL Season are provided below:
a. U18 Age Group: Born between 8/1/1993 and 7/31/1994
b. U18 Age Group: Born between 8/1/1994 and 7/31/1995
c. U17 Age Group: Born between 8/1/1995 and 7/31/1996
d. U16 Age Group: Born between 8/1/1996 and 7/31/1997
e. U15 Age Group: Born between 8/1/1997 and 7/31/1998

I have heard rumors, but have heard their is not enough interest! I don't think it will happen next year for the U-13's but it will happen in the near future.
