ODP tryouts

ODP tryouts
If your player is selected for the U-12 pool, the cost is usually $125 and for that you get a couple of jerseys and 10 great 2 to 3 hour practices over the U12 year. The practices are Sunday afternoons and usually avoid any club or tourney events. Look forward to some great coaching at these practices.
At the end of U12, ODP selects girls to attend Regional camp in June at University of Oklahoma. Cost there is around $600 for 5 days. That covers room, meals, bus travel, and jerseys. My player attended many different soccer camps and she felt ODP camp was the best she ever attended.
I'm not an ODP official, but a parent of a prior ODP player. Reason I'm posting ths:
1) There is a lot of misinformation about ODP costs. Some folks claim it is very expensive and it really isnt unless you continue into the U13 & older seasons and get selected to the travel team. Then you will have some travel costs.
2). OPD is great for your daughter's soccer resume. Look at the bios of any collegiate Div 1 team and you'll find 90% of the players list ODP in their experience. It also makes your daughter more marketable should you decide to change clubs at some point.
3). Social connections. Your daughter will make loads of friends from the North Texas area and across Region 3 (if she attends camp). I have found some club coaches discourage or 'down play' ODP due to this. Some club coaches don't want their star players meeting and befriending folks from other teams!

just like everything else, you completely miss the boat on odp. It is a training program, not necessarily a feeder program to the olympics. The training is good, there are fun life experiences, and girls get to travel and play in different places and it isnt limited to your d1 players. Personally, it wasnt really for my DD, but I know several others who loved it. Not everything is about the narrow field of a soccer life, but the journey our DDs are taking, which odp and club soccer give them. For some reason you are a bitter bee, maybe you should gtfo, no one cares about your idiotic posts.

You are correct that for some players yes it is a complete waste of time and money just to say you tried, but other who advance to sub regional to play and regional camp to compete for a spot maybe not. Opinions are different with those players who advance a see success within the program.

How could training with highly qualified ODP coaches be a "COMPLETE waste of money?"
God forbid your daughter might learn something new or be inspired by a new coach with a different approach.

As a bonus you get those awsome orange, yellow, and pink shirts.
And you consider this a waste of money?
Please tell me where you are getting a better value for your money so we can sign up.

About as much as the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League is actually associated with Lake Highlands.

Re: ODP tryouts
We had a girl that came in. Dad and Mom said: She attended ODP. We all go WOW! she's gotta be pretty darn good. Ahem! disapointment. Cut!
Then the coach goes. We're having finishing sessions on Fridays for $20 a session.
Wait a sec. Defenders and goalies don't need finishing since they're in the back defending.
It's like having the forwards take part in goalie practices.

You don't sound very happy, about people taking a little extra money out of THERE pocket. And letting their DD get some extra touches. You are not paying for it, why so angry.Referee wrote: How about paying your bills? To some $ is no object. To some of us paying club fees is barely making it. Oh she's not coordinated enough.. Let's find a tutor to make her better. Meanwhile the kid could care less about the class.

Don't you mean THEY'RE pocket - sheesh!
Lots of rambling, you sound like a referee, lol. I will try and respond to some of your comments.
If you are worried about paying your bills, competitive soccer may not be for you - at least not big club, classic league, ECNL, or ODP. Find a low cost alternative.
ODP, does not always translate - they (for some reason) aren't looking to build a team to compete in D1, they pick a mix of girls and it is different. There are plenty girls in ODP that can't play D1, and I know D1 players that didn't make ODP. It is different - some say it is Gary Williamson, some give other reasons - whatever it is, ODP does not necessarily mean you are good, or vice versa.
All players should finish, just because you play back or goalie today doesn't mean that is where you will be on your next team. I've heard from D1 college players that the coaches don't care where or what you played before college, they put you where they want. What reason would anyone have not to learn the whole game?

Referee, it seems you have a DD that simply isn't motivated to play soccer, but is doing so to please you (or you are forcing her). Let her quit and find her own passion.
