Soccer Systems in 04?
Soccer Systems in 04?
Are the girls old enough where a team proficient with a sound system can overcome a team with a handful of strong individual players, or perhaps even shut down a team with a singular dominant player?
*Exclude RASE from the discussion as they have a system + talented individual players.

My DD's coach is strongly focused on teaching the team approach and style.

Define successful.PickAwinner wrote:Agree on the great topic and perhaps even timely. With several of the girls starting to catch up in size and speed I was also wondering at what age does strategy and soccer style marginalize the teams with the kick and run systems. From what I have heard the majority of the teams in select still have one large defender and forward but everyone in between will be similar. Is it really the teams with the well-run system that will be successful in Select? Perhaps some of the contributors with older DD's can add some insight.

Not sure if you are trying to bait me in here; but for beginning lets just start with "winning" (in my best Charlie Sheen voice). We can then move to learning the beautiful game of soccer, blah, blah, blah...ballboy wrote:Define successful.PickAwinner wrote:Agree on the great topic and perhaps even timely. Re: Soccer Systems in 04?
A more organized team will always be more "successful" over a long period of time. Mainly because they rely on skill to move and score the ball rather than trying to string a couple of big kicks together to try to score the ball. "Kickball" requires a little bit of luck and an organized team will skew the odds in their favor. Any given Sunday though.PickAwinner wrote:Not sure if you are trying to bait me in here; but for beginning lets just start with "winning" (in my best Charlie Sheen voice). Don't fool yourself, kickball still exist in select. And some times it still produces wins.PickAwinner wrote:Agree on the great topic and perhaps even timely. For my older daughter the difference was in the coach. Until the start of the U10 spring season she had an "academy" coach. This coach was 80% skills focused and 20% system/style of play focused.PickAwinner wrote: Perhaps some of the contributors with older DD's can add some insight.
At the start of the U10 spring season, the "select" coach that took her through qualifying and her first 2 years of select took over and the practices were 25% skills focused and 75% system/style of play focused.
