Coaches and a max # of teams they Coach? Empty Coaches and a max # of teams they Coach?

What is the max number of teams should a coach have?

At what point does a coach get overwhelmed, doesn't show up to games (conflicts), have some one else run practices because he can't make it? etc. etc. etc?

They way i see it: 4 ????
Monday practice
5:00pm-6:30pm (Team1)
6:30pm-8:00pm (Team2)

Tuesdays practice
5:00pm-6:30pm (Team3)
6:30pm-8:00pm (Team4)

Wednesday practice
5:00pm-6:30pm (Team1)
6:30pm-8:00pm (Team2)

Thursday practice
5:00pm-6:30pm (Team3)
6:30pm-8:00pm (Team4)

Friday
Skills night??? or OFF???

Saturday/Sunday:
Games

I would say two.

I would include a skills' night and possibly a conditioning practice.

I say two because it allows the coach to become more invested in their players and not just see them as dollar signs with pigtails. Plus, it allows the parents to feel that they are getting their money's worth and decreases the chances of game conflicts.

Very frustrating as a parent when the coach has multiple teams and all are playing in the same tournament. Nice to see (sarcasm) when you are paying allot of money for this coach to see a parent coaching on the sideline because the coach is with his other team. Happened more than once to us.

I've been that parent that had to coach while the real coach is with another team at a tournament.

tournament conflicts aside, I think the max number of teams depends on if the coach has a day job or not.
I can see a coach handling four teams easy as long as they can focus properly on all of them.
If they do handle 4+ teams, then I would expect an assistant coach from the club to be at some practices and a game or two to observe things, so that in the event of a conflict the assistant is familiar enough that they can step in.

Paying thousands of dollars, a parent should NEVER step in to help coach the other kids, even if they love the sport and were their own kids rec coach back in the day. I know, you are thinking, 'but you just said you did this'. I'm speaking from experience, yes I did this and it's a mistake. I coached several successful rec teams, even after my dd went select I continued to coach her old rec team. I loved working with the kids, and loved the strategy of the game. Getting involved with helping our club coach was a mistake. It caused infighting and jealousy, and was more hassle than it was worth. Even though I had zero influence on the coach's decisions and was just there helping and taking direction, parents didn't see it that way. Anyway, for multiple reasons, a parent should never have to help in this capacity unless they join the club payroll.

personally, I feel two teams is just right.
