BTW, how did those ODP teams do?

On the other hand, not sure we need to see a trend of national tournaments targeting pre-select age academy players. Great for Ntx if one is located here, but when they start popping up all over the country and academy parents are guided onto the hook for multiple out of region travel trips per year???..can't see how that is good for anyone involved at such young ages.
Someone earlier commented on the #of ntx teams invited. There will be plenty...eventually. But the growth (in revenue and name recognition) is all about getting out of area teams to travel. Read the socal forums right around the time surf cup acceptance list goes up....you'll see the exact same discussion. A bunch of quality local teams get left out in place of teams that will be booking rooms at the tournament's stay to play hotels....it's just the nature of the beast....but the TOP local teams won't be omitted or the event will have a short lifespan.

On one hand, luv to see local soccer businesses doing well, and it sure would be great if NTX had a few high quality, merit based tournaments with enough pull to bring in top sides from other regions....AND that aren't infected with host club shenanigans. Will be interesting to watch this play out since some of the invited clubs aren't historically known for travel outside their region.

My thoughts exactly above in black . I don't see anything wrong with out of region trips. After sometime, you will be tired of playing the same teams locally, making the same trips to OK (no disrespect). Heck, its not like STX has quality teams to play (I could be wrong) to make trips down there. Its about the experience and the memories the team has together when making the trip(s). I'm not foolish, budget is the determining factor regardless of how many out of region trips your coach wants to have.

I like to believe that inviting the best teams, regardless of location, lends to greater reputation & long term success.. but then again I sell waterbeds for a living, what do I know.

It does make you question their selection process.
