LHGCL to PPL curiosity Empty LHGCL to PPL curiosity

Post by CBTeamworks 19/02/15, 11:27 am

LHGCL:
U11 DI = 20 Teams
1st thru 10th place earn a BYE and remain in DI 11th thru 18th place earn a BYE and form DII 19th and 20th place earn a BYE and move to DIII
U11 DIII = 10 Teams
1st and 2nd place earn a BYE and move to DII
3rd thru 6th place earn a BYE and remain in DIII
7th thru 10th place do not receive a BYE and must re-qualify There will be 4 open spots for DIII in QT

PPL:
U11 Girls... U12 - Fall 2015 (04’s)
40 teams 20,10,10
Top 10 teams from Fall 2014 / Spring 2015 season will receive a Bye into Div 1 for Fall of 2015. Div 1 = 10 teams.
Teams finishing in 11th – 18th place will receive a Bye into Div 2.
19th and 20th place teams will be relegated.
The top 2 teams in Div 2 will be promoted and receive a Bye into Div 2. Div 2 = 10 teams
The remaining teams will go through the Placement Tournament (PT) to determine Divisions. Any vacant spots will be assigned at the discretion of the VP of Competitive.

Question: If the four teams that drop out of LHGCL D3 fail to win in the LHGCL QT do they have to play the PPL QT for at best a position in PPL D3?

It depends.  In the 02's, LP Dalglish and LP Owen dropped out of LHGCL and were given byes into PPL D2.  I do think both teams kept over half their players from the previous year so think N+1 factors in to the decision making somehow.   All returning PPL teams have to keep N+1 to keep their bye.   There are always byes vacant in PPL, from teams moving to LH or not keeping enough players.  In the past, they Have filled the vacated D1 spots with teams that played PPL the previous year and will take teams from D2 until all spots are filled.  I think they did the same with D2 and moved a bunch of D3 teams up.  They may have had some vacancies in D2 because not enough of their returning teams had N+1, so that may be how the LP teams got into D2.  The nice thing about PPL is that they do promotion/relegation  between the fall and spring so if your team does have a chance to move up a division.  If PPL fills all the existing byes, you do have to play in a qualifier to get into D3.

Well, You would assume that if the 4 that dropped from D3 failed to qualify for LH again...then it would be some of the PPL D1 teams that took their spots in LHD3...so what happens to their spots in PPL D1? Do D2 teams automatically move up?, or can those LHD3 teams try and qualify for those spots?

Thanks everyone. That makes sense that there are going to be open spots left from the one that won the LHGCL QT and this may be the language that makes it happen. "Any vacant spots will be assigned at the discretion of the VP of Competitive."

I was thinking the same thing. I would guess Most ppl teams that qualify for LH-D3 come out of PPL D-1. So to drop the old LH-D3 teams down to ppl d-3 seems kind of crazy, instead of just moving them into the ppl d-1 slots. I wonder if a ppl d-2 or lower team has ever gotten into LH's.

It does make sense to put the old LH teams in PPL D1, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case for past few years. PPL will make those teams play their way up into D1. They will reward their D2 teams and give them byes before they give it to a LH team. Old LH teams have been lucky if they got into PPL D2.

Don't forget about APL. Most people seem to consider APL lower in standing than PPL and as a league as a whole I would agree, but if the girls APL is anything like the boys APL, there are usually 1-2 teams with a legitimate shot at qualifying into LHGCL DIII each year. And some of those APL teams may want to jump over to PPL next year so that can shuffle the teams around in PPL even more.

Let's not forget PPL has N+1, or some such, and those LH D3 teams that fail to requalify will need to prove to PPL that they maintained a certain percentage of their spring roster or PPL will drop them all the way to PPL D3 (which they may do anyway, but retaining players is a factor in the decision process)
