Many paths to development and these club coaches are not the ones developing them. It's a multitude of things developing the players. At least the ones putting in the EXTRA work.
If NTX was actually more "select" about soccer you might see a more condensed population of the talent.
Sorry, but to say that with a population the size we have there is only 2-4 teams worth of players that are worth a damn to you people is just wrong. My opinion, ain't worth much of course but then neither is anyone elses.
Of course there are great players not on the top teams. Everyone can see that. I'm not saying there are only 4 teams worth of players worth a damn...NTX is one of the top 5 soccer markets in the country.
But the thread is titled surf cup, and we're comparing NTX to socal. Socal IS the #1 girls soccer market in the country. With NTX's history, sports fanaticism, coaching resources, etc., it's not a stretch to think we can punch above our weight and have our top 4 teams on par with socal top 4, even though our market is nearly 1/3 the size. I don't think there is all that much of a gap at younger ages...it's when you get u12 and up that socal starts to stretch out over NTX.
My point is, it's not going to happen without better consolidation of ntx talent. If you're of the opinion ntx is already on par with socal, you're right and we'll have to agree to disagree. You'll have a hard time justifying that opinion with any facts though...kicks winning u10 surf cup doesn't overcome socal's mountain of results across the age groups that matter the most.

LaLiga06 wrote:Maybe this is where you don't see my point. I'm speaking in regards to the 06 age group. No more, no less. If you are familiar with all the 06s then great, if not I would think it hard for someone to speak to the level of talent or not in an age group.
The 06 age group has more depth and talent than other age groups. The 06s are on par with socal, even if every other NTX age group gets less than half socal's commits when it's all said and done.
Enjoy the ride my friend, and check back on this in 5 years. LOL. Trust me, what you're saying has been said MANY TIMES before by parents of youngers...I know from personal experience.
But you're right I should get out of this thread because I don't have an '06 and should let you guys have your fun. The things I'm talking about pertain to NTX soccer in general and don't have anything specifically to do with 06s....probably belongs somewhere else. Carry on

Re: Surf Cup
Until other squads begin venturing out of NTX and testing those waters maybe you or I shouldn't pass judgement on how good or bad anyone else's players are or arent.
Someone posted earlier. An arsenal squad not in the top 10 of socal walked into our backyard and beat 1 and tied another. If one player can make that big of a difference for an average team from there maybe you and I are both wrong and we all suck.
There is a wind of change coming and there will be upheaval across the board. Some say for good, some say for had. I guess we will all have to just wait and see.

Re: Surf Cup
1) So Cal vs NTX: I think So Cal is still known for developing better technical and tactical soccer players. I do think NTX is changing style of play and the coaches/clubs are focusing more on tactical play of soccer and parents are investing in improving DD's technical skills. The result is NTX's teams are more competitive nationally at younger ages. Hence, I believe 7 NTX teams from 02-06 were in Surf and I think all but one made it out of bracket play. None of those 7 team play kick ball. They all really try to possess the ball. You could also use the examples of the Kicks 01, Solar 01 or 00, etc. all compete very well against So Cal.
2) Depth 2 vs 4 vs 5 vs 12? It's kind of a mute point. A smaller population will never have more depth than a market 3x its size.
The key is the smaller market developing as many good teams as it can, but it will vary year to year. IMO, I think NTX has enough talent to field 2-3 really competitive teams nationally per age group. Use the ECNL nationals for comparison. Most age group had 1 to 2 NTX teams. As the girls get older, lots of other variables come into play that make the numbers smaller.
3) Top teams playing each other - I am not sure we have an issue with that in NTX 06. I feel like Sting Black plays some version of Solar and Kicks frequently. I have never felt that Solar, Sting Black or Kicks were not playing tough competition whether it is 06 boys, 05 girls, or 05 boys.
Its not in the Texas nature to dodge anyone. I am not from Texas...and I learned that quickly.
4) Regarding Albion and were they rank - I can't really say. They did well in the tourney. I know the goalie was a guest and was a difference maker. Not sure about other players. I think the answer to the question is how does the team do without guest players?
