One may sit back and think......"Oh, I'll sit back and wait until the dust settles and then go shopping....I'll have more leverage".
1. WRONG.....most slots are filled up by that point. So unless your DD is a "Good/Great" soccer player, you will only be filling slots on the team and might not get to see much PT as you would like.
2. The TIME is now.....Between February and June 30th, is the time you need to be jockeying for a team by researching and talking with coaches watching practices/games etc. It takes time to get familiar with things.
3. More than likely, the better teams roster are pretty much 90% set by June and 98% set by June 30th
4. Remember, that most teams will be entering Tournament season during May and June and 1 in July and doing at least 2-3 week practices. Waiting....you severely diminish your chances of getting seen (game time). Now, most coaches hold 1 slot open for that special DD....I've even "Heard" that a coach let a signed player go and moved someone into that slot "Shady move"
5. But, with everyone going AP (reduction in Rosters sizes) and figuring it all out....who's knows how it will play out?

Great is too strong. If she is good enough to help the team and they have a spot then they'll give it to her. The better the team the higher the competition the less likelihood for open spots and for players good enough to be able to help.

I simply do not understand the rush to sign? I understand the clubs motivation, but not the players. Especially in a year with so much change.

NTSSA rule 3.10.10
After completion of State Cup competition for their age group or completion of league play for their team, whichever is last (the end of the soccer-playing year for competitive players), players may practice with other teams without any required release or other permission, although formal tryouts may not be held until July 1. Players wishing to guest play in tournaments must always obtain a properly signed guest player release.

Since this is an 06 thread, don't see why this is relevant to the discussion since no 06's were eligible for competitive, including those born in fall of 05. No 06's can be under a competitive contract until July 1 2016. I will answer the question, though.
Beginning this year, open practices for competitive teams may begin the day after State Cup ends - May 9. Players under contract may freely practice (without permission from current coach) with any team that will have them, but guest player releases are required for tournaments. Players not under contract, "free agents", may practice with any team at any time. All players under contract become free agents on July 1 until such time that another contract is signed.
Players born in Spring 05 and currently under contract must wait for May 9 to practice elsewhere unless they get a "release to rec" by April 1. Theoretically, half of the players that would comprise an age pure 05 team are under contract with the remainder coming from the academy ranks.

Sure some will come & go over the next few months, but I'd guess players on those teams mostly sign where they are now.
These last few months of academy are the time to check things out & shop around.

A couple of things to add to that. The teams on the tier list that do not have 05AP by their name and plan to qualify 05AP I would be glad to add 05AP by their name if they just let me know. That way when I post tiers you can see them.
A few teams in tier list no longer exist because they split to an 05AP team and an 06AP team and their old game data just hasn't dropped off yet. (Ex DT Venom is now DT Glotzbach 06AP without their 05 birth years now)
Game data still being entered is only u10 data. But PrimeTime has an 05AP league where many teams are using 05 birth years players from old 05/06 teams combined with current select players birth year 05. These games are not entered in the game data so here is the link if you want to see those teams.

Instead of earning their way into D1 they would rather someone else did it for them. That player usually isn't worth the drama that will come with them. That being said if the team is lacking and needs a player or "payer" or the player is exceptional then they will have a spot. I will say my son is in the DA and 16 and he still remembers his qualifying tournament and the hard work he put in with his TEAM
Isn't the QT tourney 3 weeks after the July 1 signing day? Finding a team with open slots after signing day may be a challenge, but if you find one, your DD can still help them qualify.

I believe LH rosters have to submit around July 6th.

Re: finding a team after signing day
You sure about that? I know of several teams with split rosters of younger 05's and older 05's that also play in Lake Highlands and other leagues.lulu22 wrote:Maybe a few teams in the Sunday PT league have a couple of Jan thru July players here and there, but from what I know if these teams they are mostly comprised of Aug thru Dec 05 players. Unlikely these PT rosters will stay intact going into qualifying. Once we see the bulk of the Jan thru July 05 that chose to drop in to AP 05 the rosters will be in for a major reshuffle.

So if there is a DD with a birth date in that range playing in lake highlands they should not be.
