Is it acceptable for a select coach for a large select team where part of the large price includes practice fields to use her/his own facility for practice and charge the team for it -- either via fundraising money or out-of-pocket per player? The facility was recently acquired and was sold to him/her because it was failing. Seems to be more of a way to help the business stay afloat. But, is this legal and/or ethical?

I would have a problem with it. Definitely need to call the DOC and express your concern.

practice fields should be included in either your club fees if the club contracts directly, or in your team fees if each team contracts field cost directly. Field rental is a significant cost if the team does not own their own facility or have access to public facilities. If your coach is charging you extra for field cost in addition to club/team cost then I would definitely have problem with it. In any event even the most expensive fields should not cost more than a couple hundred bucks per player for the entire year.

I agree with that. If the coach is making more money by renting out fields that you are now required to pay additional money for in addition to dues, then I'm looking elsewhere. If the club does not do something about it then it tells you a lot about the club.
