DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DAUGHTER TO PLAY FOR THIS COACH:

Everyone holds the same desirable goals for their team or for their kids. For the price of club dues, we want results. When a coach is earning income from a club we hold him/her to high standards. We expect that coach to train and develop players and remain competitive. I know coaches are under immense pressure for the clubs in which they coach. I understand they need to win or possibly lose their job. I get all of that. I really do. I am not a parent that supports the ‘everyone wins’ mentality because that theory is non-existent in the real world, where our beloved child athlete will one day be competing. I want my player’s coach to keep looking for the best talent and when they find them I urge MY player to push hard and earn their minutes. Nothing is ever guaranteed. Nothing is free. Every day is a tryout. Every practice is an opportunity.

A roster can only hold so many players and the struggle for many parents and certainly for young players to comprehend is that playing competitive sports can sometimes result in player cuts. What too many coaches fail to understand is the lasting impact they have on players. However competitive the situation becomes, the coach must remain professional and understand there is a ‘right’ way to handle the toughest assignment….cutting a player.

Thanks for reading. To continue….never, ever, ever allow your daughter to train with or try out for FC Divas girls coach, Alonzo Segovia. This dude invites players to signing day, allows them to sign a contract, and then cuts them the next day. Coward move! He has no clue that the girls he coaches are busting their butts to get that roster spot. He fails to realize the emotion they feel when they know they’ve made the team. He forgets being young and having that feeling of accomplishment and self-pride that will likely exceed most emotions they’ve felt thus far in their early lives. This pig of a man will allow a player to feel that pride and SIGN A CONTRACT to be a part of his team, and then rip that all down within 24 hours. As previously mentioned, I understand and appreciate competition…when handled like an adult.

Who cuts a player the day after signing day? Should it be allowed that players can be cut AFTER they sign a contract? Why invite them to signing day? Why allow a young girl, despite the fact she truly understands competition, to have to feel such disrespect, confusion, rejection, and pity when all of it could have been avoided. This unnecessary, indecent, disrespectful, hateful, rude, sorry ass man single handedly left a black eye on the game we all love so much. Keep in mind the impact you have on young people, Mr. Segovia and shame on you for your recent actions. If you want to cut a kid, then cut a kid. There’s a protocol…an etiquette that should be followed. Post signing day, how many teams are out there to go tryout for?! You could have avoided this. Makes me nauseous. Good luck this season Coach! May karma leave its impact on your ball bag.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DAUGHTER TO PLAY FOR THIS COACH Empty Re: DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DAUGHTER TO PLAY FOR THIS COACH

There are strict rules against a coach releasing a player once ROSTERED to a competitive team. I think the key word is rostered.

I have never heard of a lowlife move like this one but I would certainly notify NTSSA.

Sorry you had to go through this.

Sorry that happened.  jogo is correct that once the player is rostered there are steps to take to cut them.  That said... on July 1 or 2 there is no way that player was officially rostered yet.  However if you can prove that your player signed the contract and turned it into the team along with a form of payment that is a fulfilled contract.  Even if they destroy the check... you made a good faith effort to fulfill the contract.  It is important to note that the contract is made official once payment is made on it, NOT once it is uploaded into GotSoccer for their league.  Good luck on this.  I'd certainly let your league official and NTSSA know what that team is doing.

If you can provide a screenshot of a text message conversation with Zo, that would be most helpful to everyone on the form.

What the NTSSA rules say is, a player is obligated to a team for the soccer year from the moment they sign the contract. A few paragraphs later the rules list the reasons that a player may be released involuntarily. Those reasons include; 1. Player moved to far away. 2. Player can't play because of injury. 3. Player has abandoned the team, meaning roughly that they've been to no team functions in 30 or more days. 4. In extreme cases, player is too disruptive.

Complaints of this sort are overseen by NTSSA Youth Comissioner (I believe that is Janet Campbell) or their appointee.

Good for you for posting this. Too many people come on here and whine and blame over the wrong things. What that coach did if true is complete BS. The best part of your post was "Karma kicking him in the ball bag". Good luck

Wow.  Very disappointing behavior.  Hopefully your DD won't let this sour her view of the game.  I guess the good news is that you learned this now when she can go take her skill sets to a place she is more appreciated (no sense trying to Dribble the issue with the Divas, even if you can).

Not sure where you are located but it sounds like there still are a number of '04 teams looking for players.

Good luck!

Better to find out now then after you paid and the season started that your dd didnt have a spot. Plus you only get 1 release a season so you get to leave the team and keep your release. Im sure it was not a happy experience, but maybe he did you a favor. Plenty of teams still have room for 1 more.

You are only allowed to give out contracts to the maximum of your roster.
U12 16
U13 18 and so on.
The point of it being once you have given all your contracts out you couldn't sign another player until you got the contract back. Those are North Texas rules.
The difference nowadays is that most are sent electronically and the regulation on how many get sent out is lost.

18 is insane for 9v9, and 16 is a money grab.

Post by nolanryan 07/07/17, 01:53 pm

Getoff, have you called Coach Alonzo to discuss this and get his take/rationale as to why he did what he did? It doesn't seem right but he isn't the 1st one to do something like that, which still doesn't make it right. There are still plenty of teams in need of players. Divas are based in Carrolton so you can hook up with Texans or FC Dallas which have strong presence. Divas are also a low budget option, so those may not be a fit. Things happen for a reason so just keep a positive attitude and if your daughter performs, she should be able to find something that fits her. Good luck!

Take a look at america premier 03g. I think they're out of carollton. I talked to this coach recently and he is really cool and team is independent. Could be low cost too. Hope you find a team.
