Divisions Question Empty Divisions Question

Post by KSD 14/04/11, 10:09 am

My kiddo is making the move from rec to Academy soccer so I have lots to learn. My newbie question is this... how are divisions determined at the 04 age group? I notice there are 4 divisions but how does a team transition up or down? Is it up to each team or do teams move up (and possibly down I suppose) based on wins and losses?

There are 4 divisions in SDL and then there is also primetime. In the 04 group primetime has been only one division although this usually changes as they get to U8 and there are more teams with greater difference in skill.

Also, you may find only 3 divisions for 04s next year as the 05s should get their own group.

The division or league a team plays in is determined by the coach/team.

Both SDL and Primetime have different advantages and disadvantages.

It's up to your coach to decide what division to put your team in. For example, if you play Division 2 during your first season and do well, your coach should move you up to Division 1 the next season. If your team struggled in Division 2, he should move you down to Division 3 for the next season.

If you are a new team, he could enter you in a tournament to get an idea about where your team stands against the competition.

Bingo!
Between now and the fall season I would also recommend tournaments.
As you pickup and drop players you need to constantly see where you fit and make adjustments accordingly.

Find the phone number for Lee W and call him. He has a team in every division and age group!

We have a good team and coach (TA)... the girls are mostly rec players making the transition so we'll likely take our lumps initially... but TA is teaching them good fundamentals and they have all mastered his trademarked move called the Wolf-Bite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a80IEWb8ydw) so the other 04 girls in North TX better look out! Ha!

Obviously kidding on the girls mastering this move... but they have all really improved in the short time they've been playing together. My DD even broke out the scissors in a recent rec game which was neat to see as she has really been practicing it! We're playing up (several 6 year olds on team including my DD) in a U7/8 indoor league starting this Sunday so we'll see how it goes!

Make sure your coach locates info on ODP for your DD and her teammates. It sounds like a super talented group.
