Somehow my dd got wind that the tourny she was in was not giving out trophies to the winner. Her response: "what? no trophy? what is the point of playing in the tournament?"
obviously, "for fun" or the "love of the game" is not her highest priority. i actually felt a little bad about it. this must be a poor reflection on dad.

No worries Bob.....it's a different world now. When I was a kid we use to go to an arcade and play games for fun, now if the games don't give out tickets to pick out prizes then my kids don't think they are worth playing.
When they are at home it's all in fun but once they leave home, I guess they think it's their job to bring something back for their efforts.

Yeah, those tickets get them something that is broken or under the couch within an hour of getting home!!

Not at all. And I understand her thoughts on this. Kids like prizes, especially young children. Even something as simple as a happy-face sticker is enough to make him or her strive for a good grade on a spelling test. A soccer tournament is an all weekend event, and parents pay good money to enter them. The winners should get trophies or at least very nice medals.
