02 players health Empty 02 players health

Post by Guest 15/11/11, 02:08 pm

My 02 keeper recently told me she had pain in her tailbone area after sitting for an extended period of time...I was wondering if I should take her to a doctor or chiropractor and see if her hips are aligned properly. I ask this mainly because I wonder if because she kicks with just her right leg so much and with so much force...could things be actually growing incorrectly? She has played this sport since 3 years old...has been a keeper since 7. Seriously, am I crazy to think that doing this for and hour or so a night, 4-5 times a week could affect how her hips are growing? I want others opinions before I take this to my doctor...I don't want to look like a crazy person for thinking this. She also has back pain sometimes after tournaments...I am thinking the same thing...she punts the ball with tremendous force...has even gotten in end to end on a 9v9 field...surly I am not too off base on thinking this???

4 to 5 times a week may be the problem. I am not a doctor but make her growing body rest and see if the pain persists.

one to two practices a week, keeper training once a week and during last season she played every Saturday and most Sundays. Is that not pretty normal?

Its too much for my liking at this age. Doesn't mean you are wrong though. Just might be the reason she is hurting. Can you think of anything else she does that would create pain? Rest is always good.

Well since her pre tween attitude only creates a pain in my rear...I assume that isn't it ") I don't think it is from gymnastics either...so must be soccer for genuine growing pains. After this weekend tourney, she will have off most of December...so maybe I will wait and see if it is still happening in January and go from there.

Thanks for the advice. She will be not be playing on two teams come spring so her playing time will go down as well. Gotta get ready for June!

It will intensify as they get older. A relationship with a good ortho practice is a good thing to have.

Suggest you develop a relationship with a good physical therapist. From your post, it seems like you guys are pretty active. Our PT has gotten all three kids out of some rough spots in a session or two. Don't automatically chalk it up to overuse. 1-3 trips to PT may be worth your while. And you will likely need them again at some point.

Just my $0.02 based on our experience.

TMM- As another keeper parent we dropped our 4-5 times training reg down some just to allow our dd to rest and have time to be a kid. She had goalie training, then 2 team practices and then 1 night of skills then add in 2 games a weekend. She was going 6 days a week.

With her team coach we agreed it was just to much for any 10yr old and could result in her burning out. During season she was doing keeper training, 1 team practice, skills (optional) and then the 2 weekend games. It gave her more days of rest and time away from soccer to be a kid.

I would see now that we are in winter and less games try seeing if just some rest will help her recover. I know this fall season has been crazy for most teams and the training schedule.
