Teams Set or What???
Teams Set or What???
How much change goes on now and between signing. are teams set or are they keeping open spots for movers?
Our team at 18 prior to the Jr. ECNL tourn. but SDL allows for less. Concerned about my dd's playing time with a team of 18 going in, even if your kid is starter pt will be less the more you have. So are most of the top team making cuts or keeping open spots?. Is there much movement within this last season before select????

I am curious about the same thing. My daughters team has 15 for the Spring and was wondering if that will change much by signing day. The coach wants to take only 15 select so if new folks come out that are good, it could mean cuts to the current players. Will be a tough time for those at the end of the bench.

Our team making atleast one absolute cut maybe more after this weekend tourney in Austin, but 16/17 still a high number going in. Some girls who play whole game or 90% might be down to half or 60%. Need advice on which way to lean.Lately new girls added left and right without much attention to team chemistry -doesnt that carry great weight anymore.

Strictly a personal decision between you and your DD. I know I wouldn't be happy if my DD wasn't a key contributor getting a lot of time, we would look for somewhere she fit in a little better. If that meant playing for a less desireable team then so be it, but that is us... If you are worried about minutes and your situation you probably already have your answer. The kids playing 90-100% probably aren't going to lose much time and remember defenders rarely get subbed so it kind of limits where the minutes come from,

I would go with the smaller team. No one gets better by sitting on the bench and 17 or more is too many and too many parents getting in the coaches ear about playing time. Just my thoughts....

LHGCL roster size is min 14, max 16.
PPL roster size is min 12, max 18.
It will depend on where your team plays, and the philosophy of the club and coach.
14 is the best for keeping everyone happy with playing time, but you get pretty thin, pretty quick if you have injuries and/or conflicts for a game.
15 seems to be about the optimum in terms of balancing PT and buffer against injuries/conflicts
With 16 and greater, the grumbling really starts over playing time unless your coach is a master at balancing that out across the board and you have a very balanced team in terms of skill and ability.

Playtime during games is a good indication of how invested the coach is in your DD. If your DD gets a lot of burn during the games, the coach is sending you a message that he wants your DD to stay on the team. He/she wants your DD to get the experience and develop. If your DD isn't getting much playing time during the games, the coach is letting you know that if you leave then they'll be OK with that.
Judge a coach by their actions, not by the sales pitch.

bigtex75081 wrote:18 on a squad at the '02s is A LOT of players. I wouldn't expect cuts to that number by a coach anytime soon though. The coach will likely keep all 18 for as long as he/she possibly can because the coach knows some will leave. If the coach announced today that the squad was trimming to 15, the risk of losing more players between now and contracts is significant. Don't be shocked if all 18 of you are going into the last day of tryouts in the summer and all of you have been promised 1 of the 15 contracts. When 3 kids disappear on signing day then the coach can justify the action by covering for that situation. If all 18 show up on that last day, the coach is still going to only give 15 contracts in his hand. (Some coaches save that 16th contract for a late or midseason signing.) 3 of the girls that thought they were getting a contract are left scrambling for a new team. The coach built the strongest possible team... and that's the coach's goal.
