'02 Girls FBR Rankings - 2-28-12
'02 Girls FBR Rankings - 2-28-12
1) Rankings include tournament and league games dating back to 11/01/11.
2) Missing all UAL scores and a couple SDL scores, but I should have everything else from this past weekend
3) Teams that don't have 3 game results since last Nov. are not listed in the rankings yet.
4) Ranking tier moves this week:
Fever Red dropped from T1 to T2
Tx. Spirit North dropped from T2 to T3
Dynasty dropped from T2 to T3
XLR8 dropped from T3 to T4
Cosmos dropped from T3 to T4
Liverpool Hansen Red dropped from T3 to T4
Solar Chelsea Gold dropped from T3 to T4
Crush dropped from T4 to T5
Fusion dropped from T4 to T5
Sting Goodman promoted from T5 to T4
Liverpool Hansen White promoted from T5 to T4

Second, uglydoll--I am not quite positive, but if by "them" you mean FC Dallas Kang, I think you might be looking at the points change, not ranking change. Looks to me like Kang did not move at all in rankings, but lost points--whatever that actually means. I (clearly) have no ability to describe the inner workings of the FBR, but I wondered the same thing until I realized those end columns were talking about two different things--rank and points. So that is my highly uneducated guess
Anyone with a better understanding--do I get personal bonus points for being close?

Sorry I meant why did Parker move down when they only lost 1-0 to a much higher ranked team? I would have thought they would move up because they played well against a higher tier team.

Actually, there is a problem. I'm working on correcting it now. Thanks for keeping me honest Uglydoll.

I can't believe my thought process actually had some merit. You go brain

Updated rankings posted. These should make much more sense based on last week's results.

Made a few more adjustments, see rankings post at the top of the thread for details.
Sorry for the restarts on the rankings this week. Hopefully I've got all of the initial issues from recreating the '02 DB worked out.

It seems like you may be close to that organization , so then you should know more about the team. I surfed around for some games on Vigils team to see who their wins were against. And as I would expect to see (as for most teams, wins should be against teams ranked below them) ,, well their wins (taking nothing away from their wins, good job!) are against teams ranked below them (I could only find 3 of the 4 wins) So its seems to me like they are right where they should be,, were you implying they should be higher or lower?

Re: '02 Girls FBR Rankings - 2-28-12
02Dad actually sent me his FBR file from the last rankings he posted on 1/20/12. That file basically contains all of the fall league results + Nov/Dec tourneys.
By contrast, my rankings are currently based on Nov-Feb tourneys + the 1st couple of weeks of Spring league play.
I have compared 02Dad's data and my data, and I can tell you that the removal of last fall's league results is THE primary reason for the big differences in where LP Rangel, DT Vigil, Polaris, and Solar Gio are ranked.
There are some differences between the FBR settings that I use (historical from '01's) and 02Dad used last fall, but I have checked both ways (apply my settings to 02Dad's data, apply 02Dad's settings to my data) and those differences result in a maximum move of 2-3 spots for any team. Not even close to the 8-10 spots or more some of the above mentioned teams have moved.
Basically, LP Rangel and DT Vigil had a relatively weak tourney season (combination of strength of competition and results vs. that competition) compared to their fall league season. Polaris and Solar Gio had a much stronger tourney season compared to their fall league season, and the current rankings reflect that. Teams that had tourney results more in line with the quality of their league results from last fall didn't move much in the rankings. If their fortunes change through the Spring league season, the rankings will adjust accordingly.
Once we get roughly 5 weeks into the Spring league season, I am going to remove all Nov./Dec. tourney results from the database, and from that point forward, FBR will reflect the overall performance of the teams from Jan. 1, 2012 onward. This is essentially the same thing that I did leading up QT for the '01's last year.

Believe me I understand how this thing works. I figured you had put the Fall season in the past. It needs to rollover like that, teams change, as we have seen Moreno who?, or Searls is on the move up. Things change. The teams who are very consistent are ususally ranked in the same spots, but these are 10 year old kids, consistnecy is an illusion
Plus i dont understand most peoples arguements. Most of a teams wins should be against teams ranked below them and most of their losses should be agianst teams ranked above them. When this rule holds true, then that ranking is where that team should be. But the truth is the teirs hold more of an insight to the quality of a team. A team should beat the teir below them, lose to the teir above them, and go back and forth with teams in their same teir. So i would say teir one verse teir two is much more important than who is 7 or who is 10
