Confused on Solar Celsea Blue03 Girls rankings

How does the rankings work?

Solar Chelsea Blue 03 lost in the championship game 2 weeks ago at Prime Time. They beat our girls in the Carey invitational for the championship this weekend. They won 4 games and lost 1, with 9 goals scored and 2 goals against. They also beat the team in the semi-final game that they lost to in the championship game the week before. However, they DROPPED in your standings. My daughter is GUEST playing for a few teams and Solar is the next one we were looking at. If I just went off your rankings and did not actually SEE them play some VERY GOOD soccer over the last few weeks I would not Guest with them. Somebody really screwed them around in the rankings

i'll take a stab at it.
Finishing second to last in TGPL Silver league play didn't help.
Those games from the spring still count regardless of your recent success.
Are parents really looking at FBRs as a criteria for guest playing or not? Really?
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

I'm not sure which Liverpool team you played in the finals the week before, but that was not the same team you played in the semis last weekend.
Also, I believe SCB lost one game in the round robin section, which will play into the rankings.
Finally, this is the 04 board. :-) The 03 board is over there...

Really if only looking at the rankings to base your selection on your year in select soccer will be a long one

A couple of coaches have told me parents have said they would/would not even consider checking out their team based on their current ranking. Incredible.

They lost to RASE 04 in first PT championship game. RASE 04 was not in Carey invitational.

Yeah! This is the 04's don't be crashing our party. We got enough nonsense of our own over here we don't need any more.lol

Most of the points made by other posters above are legitimate factors in SCB's ranking movement. One other factor that isn't mentioned above is that SCB had tournament results from the weekend of 1/19-1/20 drop from their history. Included in the results that dropped were a W over the current #7 ranked team in FBR, and losses to the current #5 and #24 FBR teams. This leads to a significant drop in SCB's strength of schedule metric.

Based on total body of work from Jan 25th-Present, SCB belongs somewhere in the 25-32 range, and their results from the past 2 weekends are consistent with that ranking.


Finally, it is my strong opinion that anyone who "rules in" or "rules out" a team based on where they are in the FBR rankings (or any other rankings for that matter), is going about things in the wrong manner, will have a high probability of having a poor experience in the upcoming year, and will likely be right back here at this time next year looking for a new team again.

The posters are right. Choices are best made by deciding if a coach and group of girls fit your DD and family. These rankings all wash out come July 1.

That said, call coach Jesse Llamas, or go read my posts on the 03 board about our team....and then call him.

OP while I don't know the '03 team (sorry I have dd's older and younger) but I know Jesse personally as he trains 1 of my dd's that is a keeper. He is a great coach and I do wish he had an '04 group. I wouldn't hesitate to put my dd with him at all.

I agree if you base your decision off of ranking then it could potential be a very long year with a team/coach/parents your dd & your family don't fit in with. If they are a strong team like you state they are then come July 1st when everything matters it will all fall into place for them.

Oh crap. I was totally relying on the NASA-derived rankings and the moralist's guide to coaches to determine the entirety of my dd's soccer career. You all mean to tell me I have to do this myself?!?!?
