Re: Tarrant County Clubs
Overall teams use many different things to their advantage whether it's passing, speed, physicality, height, footwork, etc. All of these are pieces of the puzzle.
While I agree that possession is good, playing the ball forward is also good. Each one has it's place in the game. I see both done in professional games on a regular basis.
I also see in professional leagues defenders playing the ball out to regroup the defense. This is not unusual. Part of the game is to frustrate your opponent. Possession ball is a form of this.
Based on stats from league play, DTFW did a good job scoring and defending against their opponents regardless of style of play.

It usually gains very little and is done (in my eyes) because 1) the player isn't confident in dribbling, 2) the player panics, 3) they are trained to just kick the ball forward by their coach (or other coach). Yes, once in a while it is good to mix things up, however, prolonged kick ball (either forward or out of bounds) is frustrating both to watch and play against. It is a constant delay of game and boring to watch. I would far rather watch a team who has control of the ball and the game through possession.
I have heard U15 ECNL parents yelling at the DD's to not go backward or begging them to "send it". Astonishing.
