Re: Texas Cup Predictions?
But.. Interesting they changed it a fourth time. The only thing clear at this point is the tourney doesn't really know how to interpret the seeding rules.

Re: Texas Cup Predictions?
1. Sting v DTS (means teams are playing their own bracket)
2. Sting v Amos (means DTS and Solar play back to back games)
3. Sting v Solar (means #1 and #1 play)
All scenarios are messed up. I think it should be Sting & Amos.

I know scheduling teams to get 3 games is difficult when you only have 5 in a bracket, but you kind of know who the stronger teams are, so don't have them play out of the bracket!

NoFanOfDrama is right. The issue was how the brackets and games were set up. By the way, it wasn't Sting who was protesting the semi-final matchup. It was Solar. They didn't want to play Sting in the semi.

Re: Texas Cup Predictions?
I think the top two teams came out of their respective brackets, and the two finalists are deserving having won their semifinal against tough competition.
It is tough that teams did not play equal competition to move on. Sting H for instance had to play a very good Lonestars team and Amos in prelims, while DTS and Sting G both played Lubbock and the Lonestars B team. I think they have a beef. As does Lonestars A team who was left out after only losing a close game to Sting G.
They should have bracketed straight up, seeded them 1-10, then played two five team round robins and a final.
That being said, does anyone think the finals should be different? Sting G beat a good DTS team, and Amos knocked off SRSA.
** Where the format really could have for bad though is if Lonestars would have beat Sting G- leaving a 3-0 team in bracket 2 out while 1 loss teams in bracket one advanced.
Good idea overall, but it doesn't work out on the pitch.
Look forward to a great match tomorrow!

Yes, I'll give you that Sting H had a tough schedule, but what about Sting Flanagan? They played two of the same teams, with the addition of SRSA. The other team Sting H played was not quite SRSA.

But... Even without cross bracketing, seeding impacts your draw. It's part of it.

Re: Texas Cup Predictions?
Second, both teams had several shots wide/high. Could have gone either way. I thought it was very evenly matched. Whoever had the wind, dominated each half.
Im not belittling your victory. You guys have a great team. So does Sting. All the girls played really hard.
I'm just saying that penalty gave your team their only goal. I don't think I would have called that penalty. But I will admit you had a better view than I did. i was standing behind your parents about 7-8 feet.

If lake Highlands has any flexibility, we would love to have several of your teams travel to the TSCH marque spring tournament, the Lexus Cup. April 10-12, 2015

Re: Texas Cup Predictions?
There was zero soccer played this weekend. None. Zero, zilch, nada.
This was one of those weekends when you just enjoy the time with the team and let the girls stretch their legs. Parking-lot hard, bumpy fields in gale-force winds do not allow for true, purposeful soccer. It was poor strategy to even attempt to play possession; the ball wouldn't settle and every ball bend and flight was exaggerated to the extreme. Playing the ball back, especially to the keeper, was perilously unwise. I watched half the games being spent chasing the ball down 50 yards into the adjoining field.
It didn't matter the age group or matchup because every game was like watching soccer with giant Ping-Pong balls. The best approach was to just toe-poke the ball as hard as possible up and down the field, and do anything to get the ball on frame and hope the wind tricked the keeper into a mistake. Goals that should have been weren't, and goals that shouldn't have been magically were. It was like playing the lottery.
That's not soccer. But somebody has to survive the happenstance and hoist the trophy in the end. Congratulations to all the teams that did.
And imagine the challenge for the older girls trying to showcase for the college scouts. I'm sure the recruiters know what they're looking for, but the conditions made players look foolish and inexperienced to the untrained eyes.
At least it wasn't cold. We had that going for us.
