FBR09 Rankings October 3rd, 2017

Seems like a disgruntled parent

I think any parent new to FBR is at first outraged by its existence. They think, "why do we have a ranking for 8 year olds, that's ridiculous!" But they don't realize it's usefulness. It helps coaches and parents get a good feel for where their team stands so they can make educated decisions on what tournaments to play in and what leagues are best suited to push but not overwhelm their players. Girls don't guest play near as much as boys do so it is a more accurate gauge than a boys ranking at this age. Once parents realize that is isn't a pissing contest and just b/c your child's team isn't ranked as high as others really means nothing about the longterm development of your child, they realize it is helpful and harmless. Just my 2 cents.

Lol.. not disgruntled.. I am just an old guy with a lot more experience in NTX soccer than this age group. Been there and done that. My only concern about FBR at this young age is it encourages kids to hop teams vs. building friendships and learning to love soccer. When my oldest retired from a sport she loved for so many years to focus on something she hopes to be a career, it was like a death in the family. What are you going to do when you wake up on a Saturday at 5am for an 8am game only to realize that chapter in your life is gone. Cherish the game for what it is.. It's an opportunity to be with your child, support her, and be there in her time of glory/heartbreak.

I get FBR "helps" TDs seed tournaments etc.. sometimes it helps but in most instances it doesn't make one bit of difference. Trust me. You all know who the "happening" teams are because you play them all the time. You don't need a ranking to tell you.

Relax and enjoy the ride to/from the pitch, setting you lawn chair on a cool patch of grass, sip on your beverage (acceptable or contraband), watch your DD play a beautiful sport, and cheer her on like she is playing in the World Cup. When it's gone...it's gone.

Actually you do not necessarily know the happening teams since there are so many leagues. Maybe the coaches do. But for tournaments with more than one division, I think it is quite helpful. I agree that they can be misleading if you just look at two teams within one or two slots apart (or maybe even five or six) and clubs with two teams shift people back and forth or play players on both teams on the same day and then there are guest players for tournaments.....I am an old guy myself and find it fun, but then I recognize some people live and die for the rankings.

I can agree with all of that. Although, FBR doesn't create hover parents that live vicariously through their kids and lack perspective on what is important... those existed long before FBR. I don't know about other age groups but I have seen very little jumping around to find the next "happening team". New teams have formed but the rosters have stayed relatively stable in the '09 division over the last couple of years. I think the transition to select will screw all that up eventually. My daughter's team has been together since before the age pure switch. They do birthdays together, sleepovers, and love practice b/c they are all great friends. The coach is a good role model for the girls and doesn't talk down to them but demands effort and excellence. The parents love devoting their entire weekends to soccer b/c we all generally like each other. Youth soccer, for the time being, is fun. I'm soaking it up b/c that won't always be the case.

Neither team played particularly well, but the Samba goalie is OUTSTANDING.

I don't remember Samba goalie being that great... are you sure Scarfone didn't play with their '08 goalie since it is an '08 league?

She is the 09 keeper and IMO it would have been 5-0 without her.

That's strange... I don't remember her being that good. Not saying she is bad but I don't remember her standing out in the games I have watched. Interesting that she has that reputation on this board.

Actually I went to go watch and rush didn't look well, maybe too many bronze and silver games under their belt.

They did not play well. Missing a key player and still won.

Oh so your saying Rush depends on one player only. Take number 15 out of the picture and the team becomes a little bit above average.

All you nuts are putting a lot of time into one game between some 8 year old girls, who probably couldnt care less about that game by now.
