Re: USA Women vs Korea today!
Kind of hoping she lets an easy one in and then the US Women bail her out with some good offense and goal production.

She was sticking up for her team mates against someone in the media. Doesn't matter what Brandi was or did, she is paid for opinions and players have their right to react. I think was she did was smart, she moved the discussion off her team mates and on to her, which she is strong enough to handle.

Completely disagree. As stated above, she has every right to her opinion, but in this case her opinion was childish and she came across as a spoiled brat.
Did she think commentators weren't there to discuss the play of the team? She has been doing this how long and one little bit of criticism and she has to go off on a personal tirade against Chastain. I also don't think anything Chastian said meritted Hope Solo telling her she needs "learn more about the game before saying anything."
She should have ignored the criticism from a TV comemntator and just played the game, like 99% of all athletes do. It is much classier and shows more strength and poise.
Chastains response was the way these things should be handled. Classy and above the fray. Hope could learn from her.
Just my feelings.

Re: USA Women vs Korea today!
I look at it the exact opposite, the team leaders come out and speak for the team when needed and put themselves out there. This happens every week in the NFL. I see Jeter and Josh Hamilton doing the same - can't tell you how many times I have heard Dirk, Shaq, Kobe, come out and do the same thing.
Also, maybe it is just me, but I consider athletes inheritantly bratty, spoiled man childs - they play a game for a living and for the most part have been coddled since before puberty due to their ability. They aren't perfect or special, just people with a gift and emotions. It isn't like she called Brandi a mentally retarded handicap like the other guy, lol.

You must be alot more plugged into what players say than I am. I watch a lot of NBA and hear criticism of the players every night from the commentators. Maybe once a year or so, I hear a star player complain about a commentators comments. Even then, it makes them look childish. The majority of them never say a word publicly yet they are criticised every night.

Probably so, I do more than watch the games as I am an active handicapper and keep an eye on the twitter wire for comments and insight. My office has sports on 24/7 so I get an overload of sports garbage....I also slept at a holiday inn express last night.

My main problem is I am trying to teach my daughter to let her actions speak louder than her words and when people say something negative about you, you cannot always respond off the cuff. You have to weigh the power of your words and remember who you represent and who you are speaking for. As a member of the US National Team, I expected more from a leader on the team than to engage in a petty, childish war of words over a few random comments from a sports broadcaster that is paid to analyse the game. I think it takes away the attention from the other players on the team and great performances on the field.

I guess you're right, what kind of person comes to the defense of their team at the risk of making their own image suffer a little. I'd rather my DD just keep her head down and ignore people's negative comments about her and her team mates. Hopefully she will know to speak up if she is physically or emotinally abused, but for now I will tell her to just keep her mouth shut just in case she may come across a little childish.

I think that is a problem with the youth today. IF they run around tracking down every one that ever says something negative about them, they are going to have tired legs. Your comment about physical or emotional abuse is pretty weak. Not even close to what happend in this case.

Also, it is pretty big on you to come on a forum and call abused woman weak. Maybe you should go to txsoccer.info?

What are you talking about. I never said abused women were weak. I said you trying to equate a soccer commentator making a comment about a sports team with abused women was weak. What Brandi Chastian said was ot an abuse of women, and for you to equate it with real emotional or physical abuse of women is weak.

After listening to her critique the US players game speed decisions for 90 minutes, I 100% agree with Hope - she needs to stfu.
