Re: Tournaments this weekend - May 10-12th, 2013
I want to thank the person who overheard some of this and tried to share it on this forum.
My apologies to the coaches, parents & kids on both teams. This will never happen again. People have stated we have assured ourselves roster checks at all future games and that's fine. At least it will squash any
We have all made mistakes but the bigger person owns up to his/her mistakes. Clearly this is something you have thought about and felt it necessary to write a sincere apology to all involved. Good post!

I'm just curious about all this. How you made an honest mistake is not something you would like to share on this forum?
Regarding the duplicate jersey #s, so the guest players just borrowed from the existing players. These existing players happened to have 2 sets of each of their unis?

I'm guessing that would have been enough to validate it wasn't a premeditated issue, more a mistake. The issue is resolved, the coaches come together to announce to the parents that they understand the issue and both feel comfortable with the decision.
Lessons learned I suppose. We all have opportunities to be better.

I had the correct, GLASA stamped, game roster and all of the player's documents with me at the field. The official could not accept the correct roster because the game had already started. I offered the roster and documents to the Sting coach and to several Sting parents to verify. The coach and the parents declined. Several Sting parents acknowledged it was an unfortunate mistake and felt bad about the circumstances. We all felt awful that the girls suffered for it. As it has been stated several times, the rules are the rules, and the game report handed to the ref when the game starts is the one used for roster checks. The official told me it was not the roster that had the other coach upset at the end of the game, but disputing the goal that was made. She may have gotten upset about the roster after that point, but I can't verify that.

Agreed. Thank you for your post. Thanks for owning up to your mistake. And thanks for not posting that your team won the game anyway and that this is all sour grapes like some of the parents on your team. Their responses legitimized the cheating allegations. Move on and move forward from this. Best of luck.

Oh don't you worry.....we're gonna get it there. We just need NoCrying to say a few things, he gets em all worked up.
to avoid all this mess, TD need to stop requiring rosters. All this would have been avoided if a roster was not necessary! Think about all the trees we will be saving. I'll be ashamed to collect my check this Friday. I feel like I "cheated" my boss for the time I spent on here yesterday. All this because we have to turn in rosters!!!
I actually like the no roster idea as well. Just have copies of birth certificates in case of an age dispute, but does it really matter who you are playing as long as they are the same age?

Only if your team lost and you are so caught up in 9-year old soccer that you want to get online and call the other team cheaters cause your team got beat. I agree with you Anarchy...who cares as long as they are the right age for the division they are playing in.

I thinnk I may have suggested that about 7 pages ago on this thread. As long as the kids are the age that you expect to be playing against, why does the roster matter? Just show up and play. If you win, get your tin, if you lose, train harder. Bring as many girls as you want, it is your job to figure out how to get them all playing time to keep the parents happy.
It appears from the manager this was all an honest mistake and I hope some of you feel pretty bad about throwing around cheater, and other derogatory terms.

I understand that...and I know rosters will never go away. My point was that the team manager who made the mistake, sounds like it was an honest mistake. Yes, it was against the rules and the other team had the "right" to protest the roster and have them DQ...but the fact is they still got beat by girls that could've played against them...had the roster been accurate. They still lost the game regardless. Being that they are 9, and this is just U9 soccer...seems like they just wanted to cause a stink cause they got beat....IMO

...and the confusion could have been cleared up by the tournament director who failed. Instead, everyone was left to assumptions. The anger is pointed at the wrong people.

You are just not gonna let it go HARDHEAD! every coach carries "extras" especially if he is going to use guest players. We played all tournament long with duplicate #s. I overheard parents of the other teams we played comment about the duplicate numbers and they knew that it is not an issue.
Parents of the Sting team in the Final mentioned it to the linesman and he brought it to the attention of the ref. DT Coach did not have to switch jerseys but he was going to do it as a courtesy to the other team.

yes, numbskull,i did. The response was for those who say why even have rosters, just as long as they are the same age. fine, go to rec and do that til your hearts content. we have rosters so magically 12 year olds don't try to show up at finals and beat 9 year olds. seen that happen or pretend that suzie is really becky etc. its to keep cheaters out which is a sad commentary on parents in charge of kids..
