The point is the FBR is the gold standard. LHGCL uses it, the parents use it, it is right a vast majority of the time so why not structure the league based upon it. No need for a QT.
Seriously? Get rid of the LHGCL QT? Isn't that the holy grail for us crazy academy parents (at least until ECNL)? When my dd goes through QT in 2016, one of the key lessons I want her to take-away from that experience will be the concept of hard work potentially equaling a positive result. Such is life that sometimes things don't work out the way you might expect. Whether her team qualifies D1, D3, or heaven forbid they're banished to the dark realm of PPL, I believe she will always look back on that b*tch of a summer leading up to the QT. She will understand the effort needed to differentiate herself from being a girl that plays soccer versus a true soccer player.
I understand all the commotion stirred up each summer, but remember that this is just another step on their soccer journey - this is not the final destination. They're just turning 11 years old; let them enjoy friendships they develop and life lessons they learn during this process.

If that is what you think it is, I think you will be sorely disappointed. Having gone through it before, it really isn't a big deal and the teams that should be in D1 wind up there, and the other teams normally wind up where they should. The point was the FBR has already decided those things so lets just get on with the league play. I see I am in the minority, so have at it.
As for the wager on who qualifies from the earlier poster. How about this, if the top 20 from FBR all qualify, I keep posting and if the top 20 from FBR don't all qualify, I keep posting.

Re: QT Brackets are posted
One thought for LHGC is that as long as they aren't "cutting" any teams after the first week they should consider having larger pools playing the pools out over 2 weekends. This would reduce the impact of seeding errors that will invariably happen when trying to seed 50 10 year old soccer teams. To do this though, they would probably have to give a certain number of teams a free pass into D1. History tells us this number could be as high as 15(or so) and you would have very limited(i.e. no impact) on what teams qualify for D1. Ultimately the number of teams that auto qualify would depend on how many teams signed up and how big the pools are. For instance if you choose to have 6 teams in a pool this year, logically you would have either 10 teams auto qualify or 16 teams qualify, leaving either 7 or 6 pools of 6 teams.
How many teams in a pool? I'm not sure I know for sure. Some thoughts would be as follows:
6 teams- Benefits: Even number of teams a pool is easy to manage, 6 teams in a pool is better than 4. Negative: Only 5 games vs 6 games to determine who qualifies.
7 teams - Benefits: Every team would play 6 games just like today, better than 4 teams or 6 teams . Negatives: Its difficult to manage odd number teams in a pool, would probably require a "round" of games during the weekday in between the 1st and 2nd week so that no team has to play more than 3 games in a weekend.
8 teams - Benefits more teams in the pool the better, Nice round number; easy to mange. Negatives: would probably require a weekday round so that no team plays more than 3 games a weekend, an additional game over the two weeks of qualifying.
Just some thoughts

Unicorns wrote:At least the first year, yes. I think the FBR has proven to be right to a tune of about 95% or something.
Lets see how many of the top 20 in the FBR this years don't make LHCL 1. I bet all 20 make it.
So how is that 95% working out for you so far?
#17 tied with #39. #19 tied with #37. #8 beat #47 1-0. All blew the FBR out of the water. In order for either of these teams to make D1, they will likely have to win their next 2 (which would also mean upsetting the FBR, and the probabbility that #8 or #19 will not qualify for D1).
Closer seeds play tonight - I wouldn't be surprised to see some upset wins.
All respect for the FBR as a great tool to estimate position - just making the point - that is why we play them on the field and not rely on rainbows, lollipops and unicorns to just use the FBR exclusively to select LHGCL.
Best of luck to all teams playing tonight!

Not working out too good. I blame the FBR. Looks like it's going to be way off and a bad year for the ranking system. I thought it would be more accurate than this but I guess it really is not a good indicator of where teams should be seeded and how they will play against other opponents.

It's probably impossible to rank any teams outside of the "Top 10" because of so much player movement and different competition levels. I do think there will be a lot more surprises though:
Andromeda vs Sting West
FCD White vs FC Premier
Texans White vs Kicks
These teams are probably a lot closer than FBR shows. 15-35 is probably a crap shoot with a few exceptions. Fun to watch.

I think Kicks are looking good and ready, and while Sting West and FCD White scored a lot of goals at Tut, Andromeda is under-estimated, and no one should look past FC Premier.

When it comes to picking the outcome of 10 yr old soccer games, I buckle down and focus. Btw, I picked your DDs team to lose also.
