Ok Yoda... but that's one of the dumbest things I've read on here.

Over-confidence is bad yes... confidence and believing in yourself is good. These are different things.

And no... FUN and CONFIDENCE are the two most important things by far. Learning comes from doing and there won't be much doing for an 8 year old if they don’t believe in themselves... that they CAN get it and if they are not having fun.

But shouldn't you at some point reward the girls for all the hard work against those top 03 teams with some competition against their own age group so they can see the fruits of their labor? At some point does it not become them running into the same brick wall repeatedly? Its not to shut up the posters, myself included, but for the kids...that's who this is for right?

The teams you reference repeatedly are training just as much and improving just as much, so how do you reach them?? Bring in 03s, which if done is only for wins not for development, and if not its the same teams beating you the same way.

To each their own, but there has to be reward in the things they do. And telling a kid that you only got heat by 5 this time instead of 6 is not much of a reward.

I have seen plenty of kids off the boys side of things that played on the top academy teams. Plenty of winning and confidence. Now they are no longer with those top teams and have been replaced by kids who are actually good. Just because you are confident doesn't mean you are actually good. If you want confidence why not play down into silver. You could just smash team and win everything. Academy is for learning and challenge and the kids should have fun while doing that. REC is fun. DD loved rec, dribbling past kid after kid in an endless goal fest. Plenty of confidence and fun but it wasn't going to push her to make her better. But then again I might be wrong. I guess thats why you guys play in the league you play in. Don't want to play Bennet, TBG, Rosales, Kenn, you would rather be out the building "confidence"

Those of you who have doubted whether LP Dalglish is the real deal will get the opportunity to see them vs 04 competition. They will run through this tournament like SRSA runs through the 03 tournament competition. Keep in mind that LP Dalglish finished 2nd in two 03 tournaments this summer and won one 03 tournament.

At least we can gauge where everyone else is in relation to LP Dalglish after this is over.

LP Dalgish
TB Gold Elite
DT South Adames
Texas Spirit North Red

May want to rework your brackets. Put Beardsley in Daglish's spot and watch out. I am seeing Daglish in 03 division. I hope we stick to the long term plan and don't get caught up in all this.

I think I'm going to have to disagree with you also. I don't think playing "ONE" tourny in your own age group is going to some how hinder your girls development. At some point it has to be about fun. They have the next 10 years to develop and I don't think one weekend of fun will stop that from happening!

That's a little extreme don't you think. They are not saying do it every game in every league you play in. I believe they mean every once in awhile its ok to have "FUN".

So let me get this straight, basically it is not worth doing unless it is always against the top?

How is confidence built by being beat by the top teams? Shouldnt you allow a child to play against their peers to actually see what they have developed by going against those top teams every weekend?

Would it be detrimental to your child if she played a weekend tournament against other 04s and beat them all by using the skills she has developed against bigger stronger kids... of course not. What it could do though is spark a few light bulbs in her head when she busts a move on someone that she had not been able to do previously on someone from DT South or Juve...for example..

Stay thirsty...

Great point on boths sides. I cannot disagree totally with either side. I just hope all the girls bring it that weekend and everyone is prepared. I hope that we as parents do not put any added pressure on our girls and just let them play their game. I hope that Dalglish does play in the 04 bracket and that TBG will be a chance to face them. It will be nice to play against a team that is considered to be at the top of the class.

SRSA, DTS seemed to have done okay and caught up to the older groups. You catch them by better training which I think we have and by having more skilled kids. We see the fruits of their labor all the time in practice and games. When we see them win a ball in the middle, drop it too the back line, switch it too the other side and work the ball up field, connecting multiple intentional passes together. We see their minds working trying to figure out the soccer problems and solve them. Let's not fool ourselves, this would be exactly for the parents and people on this board not the girls. The girls don't care what their ranking is. The coach doesn't care. For the record, my DD wants to play DTS top 03 team. The small forward on that team has beat her on multiple occasions and they play in a similar way. She feels she can beat her this time. She can't but she will be better for trying.

7v7 would definitely be an adjustment for Dalglish girls but theyve been playing on bigger fields so the smaller size fields might make the adjustment easier for them. There's a few of them girls that can knock the you know what out of the ball!

I see alot about you the parents... my comment was for the kids. What is wrong with them doing all of that and having the end result being a beautiful goal, instead of a brick wall in the DTS defense?

That's no joke! I saw one of their defenders nearly score off a goal kick... it sailed the length of the field and our keeper had to really move to make the save. I have never seen an 04 strike a ball more perfectly.

That's just it. It is not detrimental to play one tournament against the 04's. It is also not helpful. So other than benefitting the board and parental ego's I don't see a reason to take girls who play 9v9 and have the change to play 7v7 and have even more kids sitting on the bench. All for what? I think the girls are having fun. I think they have fun in practice and the games. I think the fun is in the soccer but I will admit to being extreme on that end. I don't think scores should be taken at that age. I think playing to win and development are too different things. I think there is too much parental pressure to win and not enough to work hard, effort, show skill. I think confidence should be borne by a belief in what "you" do not by your team, wins, or useless trophies. Being on a top team does not make you a good player and being on a bad team does not make you a bad player.

If SRSA and DT South is what you aspire to be then you are proving our point! Both SRSA and DT South play multiple tournys in their own age group while also playing up in league play and I don't think it has hindered those teams development. Are you really saying that playing one tourny in your own age group will hinder your child's development?

if you have that many kids, why not split the group and do two teams...then everyone gets a boat load of soccer and touches on the ball for a weekend... thats what it is all about right. Touches and development!!

So I guess since it's for the girls benefit we should ask for volunteers to see which of them is ready to sit on the bench for alot longer. I am sure some of the girls will understand, it's for them after all

edit**
I like that idea. Split the team, we would have to add a couple to have enough. and no I am not saying it will hurt them I am saying there is no benefit that is worth the trouble.

The small forward on that team has beat her on multiple occasions and they play in a similar way. She feels she can beat her this time. She can't but she will be better for trying.

I see alot about you the parents... my comment was for the kids. What is wrong with them doing all of that and having the end result being a beautiful goal, instead of a brick wall in the DTS defense?

So I guess since it's for the girls benefit we should ask for volunteers to see which of them is ready to sit on the bench for alot longer. I am sure some of the girls will understand, it's for them after all

As I stated, split the group and take two teams.. thats probably alot more touches then a few of them are used to getting in a weekend.

However, I do see your point on going down to 7v7 and having 7 girls on the bench. You could sub all field players out and still have one on the bench that hasn't played. Playing time could be an issue!

Will LW be seeking a waiver to allow them to play up into Lake Highlands when they are stuck at U10 for a year. That year is going to suck... can you imagine a full year playing against kids their own age... OMG!

santa dont know how Santa works here, but I hadnt used that icon before so I figured I would give it a try now.

I like pitchdads thinking. They will run out of steam at some point but they would really see alot of touches which is always good

The last year you usually play your own age group. to get a good seeding for qualifying. But for all I know LW could be taking them back to their own age group next season. He certianly doesn't run anything by me for approval, otherwise we would be playing all futsal and small sided games. lol. Love the FCD liga thing they have going on.

That's no joke! I saw one of their defenders nearly score off a goal kick... it sailed the length of the field and our keeper had to really move to make the save. I have never seen an 04 strike a ball more perfectly.

There's 4 or 5 that can consistently strike the ball well and 1 or 2 that can bend it.

thats a good question and there are those out there that know... i can say this because I love the PMs with all my personal info and the threats of showing up to greet me. No need to put it out there enough have it already.

Sorry gents.. but she is great, having fun, working hard and having a blast... actually has her little bro begging to play now!

I should add, I have never received one of those lovely PMs from a Dalglish parent gladly. They do have better things to do with their time!

go99 wrote:That's just it.

Go99, you have a point. I forgot that LP Dalglish is built for 9v9 and probably carries 14 girls. Playing 7v7 doesn't make sense if it means having to sit 7 girls on the bench. If Lp Dalglish has a roster of 14 then they should play in the 03 bracket. Playtime is very important and sitting 7 girls on the bench is not worth playing in the 04 division.

I guess that means we should make TB Gold Elite the pre-tournament favorite. Hopefully Dt South will be in tournament form for this event and give TB Gold Elite some competition.

So I would assume that Dalglish should not even be considered in any 04 Rankings since they are playing up with 03's So who would be number one if Dalglish is out

LP Beardsley and Texas Spirit play 9 v. 9 in 03G EAL.

How about asking Dom to play 9 v. 9 for the 04's at the Aces Tournament?
