The answer isn't going to be significantly different than what S.O.A.P. posted above (which was actually written and posted by me some time last year in the run-up to the '03 QT).  Seeding committee reps will be out in force at Puma Cup/King Tut, and you can also contact LHGCL and request them to send a seeding committee rep to come observe a scrimmage/friendly during July, and they will generally do so.  They will use their observations and discussions with people from within the NTX community, who's experience and opinions they trust (trust me, I am NOT in that category   ), to determine the seeding for the tournament.

You are going to hear all different kinds of machinations, and claims by parents/coaches, that playing in Puma Cup vs. King Tut or vice versa, is the better way to go because it will lead to getting a better seed.  Or maybe even not playing at all and inviting LHGCL to come watch a scrimmage will lead to a better seed.  It's all HOGWASH!!!

YOU CAN NOT PREDICT HOW THE SEEDING PROCESS WILL PLAY OUT!

IMO, if your coach is wasting any of his/her energy on trying to figure out how to best work the system to get a favorable seed, I would be extremely worried.  The coach should be making his/her decisions on what pre-QT tournaments to play/not play based 100% on what he/she feels will best prepare the team to be playing at 100% top form come the start of QT. Anything else is an absolute waste of time and energy.

Focus your energy on something that you have some chance of controlling (i.e. preparing your team to be playing at their absolute best).  Don't focus on something you have absolutely ZERO control over (QT seeding).

If your team is playing at it's best, it will not matter where you are seeded.  Your team will qualify exactly where they should.

...oh, and keep in mind, your coach could "work the system" perfectly, and your team could end up getting the highest seed you thought was possible... only to have LHGCL miscalculate on the seeding of one or more of the other teams in your bracket, that results in your team actually having a tougher bracket than they would have if they were seeded several spots lower... it's a total crap shoot...

It all sounds good to say all that stuff. But what if YOUR top 10 team ends up in RASE's bracket due to a "seeding error"? Are you gonna go to D3 and like it?

Then you have the 2nd weekend to get the job done.

If this was to happen, and your team was truly top 10, then they should win their week #2 bracket, scoring close to max points, and easily claim one of the 6-8 remaining D1 spots that are filled during week #2 of the QT.

If your top 10 can't do that, then maybe they really weren't top 10 after all, and deserve to end up in D3...  

Will seeding have an impact on where 2-4 teams out of 30 end up qualifying? Yup. Happens every year.

Can you do anything about it, or predict how the brackets will shape up ahead of time? Nope. So why focus ANY of your energy on it?

You have a much better chance of overcoming a bad seeding/bracket if you have your team prepared to play well for QT, then you have of taking advantage of good seeding/bracket if you don't have your team prepared to play well.

Nope.  ...but...

- I be shocked if they weren't the #1 seed
- If they aren't #1, they'll be #2 or #3 at worse
- Whether they are #1, #2, or #3, the second and third seeds within their bracket during week #1 of QT will be somewhere between seeds #20-28, and it really won't matter to any of those teams whether they have to play RASE, or have to play Tx. Spirit/LFS/DT Scott/DT South/Dalglish instead of RASE.

I guarantee you that during QT, there won't be any passing up on shots to drop the ball back and work on possession and passing, until a team is up by at least 3 or 4 goals...

So...BW...you are a stats guy... a couple questions...

1. You stated that "adjustments" are made to the seeding to insure that big club teams don't have to play sister teams...does that put small club or independent teams at a disadvantage?

2. You stated that tournaments after signing day COMBINED with "expert opinions" determine the seeding. Since some of these small clubs and independent teams are not very politically connected...does that put them at a disadvantage?

I just think its too easy for the well connected big clubs to protect their own in this situation. Granted, I am not talking about teams like the Mustangs or SRFC - they have earned their spots in the top 15...I am talking a bit farther down, like a friendly seeding (weaker 2nd weekend group) could help a Sting/FCD/Texans/LP team get into D3 on points over an independent team who was placed with tougher competition the second weekend.

Maybe a good thing or a bad thing.  Whichever way you look at it, either teams will have to step their game up.

I don't really think it matters where RASE is seeded, they'll go 3-0 with 30+ goals for and zero against whatever the schedule.

there has got to be some type of penalty for a team to playing in the girls division for over 2 years?????  maybe RASE has to play with only 9 players or no goalie??  Hell, that wont make a difference anyway.  What you think GO?

Oh and don't play any tournaments beforehand so the qualifying committee has no idea who they are and where to seed them.

I think it would be hilarious for an "unknown" team to be in qualifying. For a team to wake up in the morning with the thought of a cake walk bracket to all of a sudden find out "Wait...that team looks like rase"
