I wouldn't say holding the ball in the corner is defeating a team. The team (was/were) just stalling to ensure a win.
But y'all lost to 04s, right? By the way, y'all will need to teach your girls how to do that, it's classed as a skill. Shielding the ball.
Yes, however this was our first 3v3 together. Our girls did very well against a team that plays 3v3's regularly. Wasn't that impressed with them that's all. Shielding is one thing, what they were doing was not shielding. Just like taking your time to go get the ball. Hope that's not a skill now.

Perhaps you should've asked Go99 to let his DD help out, y'all may of scored a goal against RASE!
I doubt it
I doubt it too. First they would have to learn how to actually pass a ball

Soccapeeps wrote:Master Bates wrote:I'd say its all Soccapeeps fault! "I wasn't that impressed" nobody comes on here praising RASE for winning the tournament, even when they beat top 03 teams so it shouldn't be a surprise that parents or supporters stick up for them. They should be congratulated for playing some great soccer but the top team always gets people trying to shoot them down. My DD told me a while back that the RASE girls are some of the nicest girls she's played against and with at camp. I've also never heard of RASE parents get into it with other parents in the field so I just don't get it.
I want to formally apologize to all of you for having a differing opinion. After an hour of soul searching, I came to the conclusion that Raise is better than most teams and I was impressed a little bit.
So why were they holding the ball in the corner? If my recollection is correct, they did that to us too!
Because winning is now what matters in 3v3.

Actually son was playing is the reason we were out there. And I think my position on 3v3 and you guys insanity is clear. But just incase it's not I will give it again. If her friends need a player she will help otherwise I choose not to participate in the insanity. 3v3 is worse than league play. She doesn't not need more chances to compete at soccer she needs more chances to "play". It's taken way to serious and is more harmful to development than it is helpful. I watch my son get together with friends and they laugh and play, do tricks and have fun. I watch the 04's run hard, work, and try to win. Parents are closer, pressure is higher, no creativity, no beautiful play. 3v3 went from being a fun distraction to serious big money ultra competative business. Hell you can even go on to be 3v3 champ at disney for what thats worth(nothing). So a few month ago when someone (not me) did a top 04 players list. DD was on that list so I think she will be okay. And the other player "wants" to play so there is no reason they should deny her just so my DD can play. But I did find out she has way more fun at 3v3 when she isn't actually playing in it. She was able to cheer on her friends and hang out during the game and run hard and play between the games (no need to rest)
But hey if it doesn't work out at rase she can always come take your DD's spot on her team:shock:
I will agree with the insanity that it seems to create - originally my DD had her team so she could have fun and continue to compete, get touches, use skills, be creative, and not necessarily worry about it being in a "win at all costs" type of environment. However, competition breeds winning and winning breeds the stress of being the best and with that stress all those intangibles begin to fade - being able to make mistakes, being creative, using those "less used" skills all while striving for some fun in a fast paced environment are gone. I think the Disney carrot should be for the fun of going, not for the the level at which you will play. Nice to win but the carrot should just be the enjoyment of playing a sport they love while getting the caveat of Disney and spending time at Disney with friends. The screaming parents and screaming coaches and parents accusing teams of cheating or switching players or whatever, have started to take the fun out of something that was deemed to be enjoyable by the kids and a great distraction from the stresses of SDL/TGPL/PTCL or any other leagues you want to toss in there. Again, the parent factor and money have created a monster out of something that was originally created to be a fun, extra-curricular activity that she could play with friends (not necessarily from her own team). I had a moment this weekend that honestly made me a little sick to my stomach when I watched my kiddo almost break into tears, not from anything the other team did, but from her own coach's anger and screaming at the kiddos cause he wanted the win. That is not what 3v3 was supposed to be when we started this thing.

This is why I stopped playing and it's a shame because she loves to play. It's actually worse than league play because everything is closer, mistakes are magnified and punished more harshly.

Yes, however this was our first 3v3 together. Our girls did very well against a team that plays 3v3's regularly. Wasn't that impressed with them that's all. Shielding is one thing, what they were doing was not shielding. Just like taking your time to go get the ball. Hope that's not a skill now.
I totally agree with this it turns parents into lunatics!
Finally, I agree with you MB. It does turn parents into lunatics to the point they don't let you have differing opinions about a 3v3 game you observed without lambasting your views.
Yes like belittling DDs on forum.
Yes, however this was our first 3v3 together. Our girls did very well against a team that plays 3v3's regularly. Wasn't that impressed with them that's all. Shielding is one thing, what they were doing was not shielding. Just like taking your time to go get the ball. Hope that's not a skill now.
Ok, whatever you say. Never been impressed by your team either
Pot calling the kettle black?....perhaps. I for one am impressed by their team's DDs!!
That was a response to another hater! Keep kissing backside!
How did that end up in this thread...

It's for them not us I think the girls who play have better ball control, pass the ball better, and dribble the ball better than the girls who do not play its all about getting touches on the ball and where better than a 3 v 3 tournament to get a lot of touches. I would rather lose in a good competitive game than blow another team out. And get rid of the cheap touch and shoot from the start and the sideline how does that teach development your just asking a girl to run up and sacrifice her her body or face to keep a goal out.
I don't disagree. I think the other annoying thing that gets me is when the coach tells the point player to stand back near their own crease the whole game. Some of these teams are being coached by parents who are clueless and are telling kids to do things that are, shall we say, idiotic!

Re: Who's playing in the hurst 3 vs 3 live
I agree, I always got tired of the one kid standing back in front of the goal the entire game and never getting involved. However it is NTX and I've heard parents bragging about winning 3v3 games against teams "ranked" higher than them on the big fields like somehow they've really accomplished something in life. Now the kids at this age pretty much have no clue who anyone is, unless the parents say something.
Sports were generally more fun when we were kids because it was primarily just roll a ball out there and play. Some of the greatest to ever play "pick whatever sport you want" didn't grow up under a microscope everytime they stepped on the field like kids do these days.

Amen. Played a 4v4 recently on the little field with little goals and the opposing "coach" planted 2 kids on the edge of the crease!

I may be mistaken just my observation when we played there.
Completely agree - I'm hoping all the parents on my DD's team see it that way - the trip to WDW is specifically for the FUN of the trip. If they offer a Silver EID we'll take it otherwise I'm completely fine playing them in the open divisions if for nothing more than the experience of playing at ESPN and getting to enjoy all that WDW has to offer.
As far as strategy goes, the old coach of my DD's team used to play the switch patterns - not one player was specified as an all time back player but they would "switch" based on the attacking offender meaning at any given time anyone on the field becomes the back player. Really does teach quick thinking and communication - as one runs up they communicate to the player next to them to retreat and so goes the continuously moving triangle formation. The best example I saw of this was RASE and Galacticos - they kept the triangle moving and no one seemed to ever step on their own teammates shoes - meaning they stayed spread out and always moved to a passing lane. Ball never stopped moving nor did the players and they didn't play selfishly - passing is the basis for the game and then speed and accuracy. They were always switching and talking to each other, no individuals trying to play 3 on 1 for the glory.

Maybe the crease needs to be doubled in size?

Re: Who's playing in the hurst 3 vs 3 live
Maybe a totally free tournament held on grounds that are donated or volunteered? You play for bragging rights instead of trophies and medals? Still use brackets and the lot but make it all about the fun of playing instead of what you get to take home afterwards... Who's up for something like that? Leave money and trophies out of the equation and only collect if there is a field rental - in that case all players would pay like $2 or $3 to play instead of $25 - $50.
My guess is there would be limited takers cause why play if there's nothing to play for right? That would be a parents mentality.
